Pestana Alvor South Beach Premium Suite Hotel

We enjoyed a wonderful week of rest and relaxation at the Pestana South Beach Alvor, a delightful, low-rise, contemporary design hotel with excellent amenities overlooking the beach. Our first positive impression was gained on arrival when the delightful Christina recognised my wife and warmly welcomed us back to the hotel and offered us a cool drink or a glass of sparkling wine. Our spacious suite was on the ground floor comprised a separate bedroom, bathroom and sitting area and opened out on to a patio with table chairs and loungers. The breakfast buffet was extensive and plentiful and in my opinion should accommodate all tastes. The gentleman in charge at the bar area was incredibly service oriented and made coffee to order. The restaurant is an ideal place for lunch or a light snack and a cool drink during the day. The grounds around the hotel are exceptionally well maintained as is the pool area. The staff at this hotel is superb, nothing is ever a problem, their aim is clearly to please and they are genuinely customer centric.

Layout was user friendly with easy access to the outdoor areas and beach. Nice to be in smaller 2 storey building and lovely to be able to walk to the town along the beach.

Pillows could be more comfortable and mattress a little softer!

Beautiful location

Although the hotel is at the beach, the beach is managed by another company, so anything at the beach is NOT included. You have to pay a third party for beach chairs, umbrellas and towels. It should be disclosed by the hotel.

The hotel is new(ish) and is kept spotlessly clean by a team of housekeepers who appear to be working from morning to night. Location wise, it is at best a 20 minute walk into Alvor. It is right on the beachfront which would have been great if the weather conditions had allowed us to venture onto the beach, which it did not. Other than that this and other hotels surrounding it are pretty much isolated.

Beds are solid, most uncomfortable week I have ever spent in a hotel. Breakfast, if you are used to British fare, is poor. If you like continental style then it’s okay. I stuck with tea and toast. On one evening, having returned from dinner in Alvor, I stopped at the bar for a drink, only to be informed that the hotel had run out of beer! No draught on tap and only a few bottles of zero alcohol lager. The bar area itself is rather bleak and soulless, the pool area much the same.
