Quiet beautiful location. Gorgeous relaxing onsen. Convenient to bus stop. Friendly helpful staff. Traditional decor. Lovely dining experience.
Traditional bedding would benefit from a cushioned overlay for those with sore joints.

Just be mindful that the bed is rather hard, from a non-Japanese perspective. We knew what we were signing up for but still the second night was a challenge for our backs. I would strongly recommend to the hotel to replace the traditional clothes that they provide. They had holes and were very worn out. I wasn’t comfortable wearing them.

We are usually not fussy, but would probably not stay here again. Location is beautiful, staff is kind and helpful. Onsen was nice. Food was good but expensive compared to options in Takayama
The place is truly worn down, holes in the sheets etc. The bugs were really an issue, we collected 5-10 per room per day. 1 of 3 rooms had a SEVERE smell that the staff could not get rid of
