Berghouse and Cottages

Location, jaw-dropping views, well set up. Relaxing. Lovely food. Close to national park Gorge walk.

Quite cold at night and only a fire for heating but we rugged up under blankets. Would have been good to have access to larger pieces of firewood as we could only buy very small logs from the owners and they brined away too fast..

Comfortable and clean accommodation. Great views and hiking trails.

Kitchenette is a bit cramped, so plan for outside cooking or use of the restaurant.

Peace and quiet. Views like no where on earth. Lovely staff and friendly people

The location of the cottages is absolutely spectacular, with unparalleled views of the Drakensberg Mountains. The grounds and walking trails are superb and the cottage (on one level) was spacious and very tastefully furnished.

The access road to the cottage is nothing short of treacherous in wet conditions, and therefore it is essential to have a 4x4 vehicle. The food delivered to the room didn't really work for us as firstly there was no choice of menu at all, the quality of the food was at best average and quite repetitive. Leaving your leftover food and dirty plates, glasses and cutlery in the room overnight for collection also was not ideal. The cottage was not equipped with a kitchen sink which was a real problem given our previous observation of dirty plates etc left in the room overnight. We had one day of torrential rain which highlighted two other problems: The veranda roof to the front aspect leaked heavily, saturating the sun loungers and table and chairs. Secondly the flue for the wood burner dripped water continually on to the corrugated metal roof making a very irritating noise that disturbed our sleep.
