We recently stayed at Cayley Mountain Resort from Friday to Sunday with our young children, and unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing. Before arrival, I called ahead after a long morning of travel to confirm that everything was ready for check-in. Head office reassured me that our room would be ready at 2pm. However, upon arrival at the resort, we were met by unfriendly staff who insisted we wait until 3pm. This was particularly frustrating as we were travelling with a baby and young children who needed to use the facilities and eat. Only around 2:15pm were we finally allowed into the room. While the unit itself was clean on arrival and the views were absolutely beautiful, the basics were severely lacking. There was no toilet paper in the bathrooms, no soap available to wash baby bottles, and not enough towels provided. We had to repeatedly call reception and wait extended periods for these essentials. To add to this, the TV was not working upon arrival — there was no signal at all. We had to call maintenance and wait for someone to come through to reconnect and configure it before we could use it, which should have already been checked prior to our check-in. On the second day, we again had to request additional tea, coffee, and sugar, as only enough had been provided for two people despite there being five of us. When I raised my frustration about constantly needing to call for basic items, the staff member I spoke to was rude and dismissive, even going so far as to blame us for “checking in early,” which was simply not the case. There were also maintenance issues that were completely ignored — including a bird trapped in the chimney that cried continuously, with no assistance sent despite reporting it. The most unacceptable issue, however, was the state of the en-suite bathroom. On the second day, after noticing a terrible smell, we discovered that the toilet had not been properly cleaned. Despite housekeeping having serviced the room, this was completely overlooked. The smell became so unbearable that we had to close off and avoid using the bathroom entirely for the remainder of our stay. Service throughout was consistently poor — staff were unhelpful, unapologetic, and at times outright rude. While management suggested raising concerns directly rather than leaving a review, I feel it’s important to share this experience honestly. We paid a premium price expecting a comfortable, clean, and well-serviced stay, but received the opposite. Sadly, I would not return. I would rather pay less elsewhere and receive basic, respectful service than spend this amount and be left so disappointed.
