Unclean in need of sprucing up

Location

The carpet had stains in it, and the shower had not been cleaned thoroughly, with black mold in the silicone. The blinds would not open properly, and I could hear the next room clearly.

Nothing Fancy, Just Great Hospitality At The Crown

The Crown, along with the other establishments that are operated by the same group in Rhayader, is exceptional for its warm welcome, superb service and reliably good food and drink. The accommodation is perfectly adequate and represents great value for money. We breakfasted over the road at Ty Morgans and that was just as good. The bar and serving staff deserve a special mention as they could not have been more pleasant and helpful.

Great location and a lovely old pub with charm, character and great staff.

I love the pub and the staff and it’s situated in a lovely little town with so many options of things to do in the local area. As a motorcyclist this part of Wales is probably my favourite.

Although it’s a great location it is very noisy late at night from the pubs over the road. The room felt a bit tired and could do with a paint and a new carpet and maybe invest in some secondary double glazing to keep the sound down.

Didn't get much sleep unfortunately

Pretty basic accommodation, but it had all the essentials. Beds were pretty comfy, and the bathroom was clean, though snug.

Unfortunately the placement of the room led to a very uncomfortable night. People from the pub across the road have direct access under/ outside our window and they chose the alley outside our window at 1- 2 am as the place and time that they wanted to shout, scream and fight. I have a recording form inside our room with the window closed revealing the loud shouting and arguing that we got to enjoy, great for an afternoon on Eastenders but not so good for sleep in the early hours.

Great short notice booking

Quirky quint family apartment, ample room with all basic amenities. Arrived later in evening but staff at connected hotel over road very helpful and showed us to our accommodation.

Rhayader is a very pleasant town. Plenty of nature walks and plenty of facilities in town.

Friendly staff but disappointing stay.

Staff were very friendly and the pub itself is nice. The location was good and being in the town centre made it easy to locate and also meant other amenities were easy to reach.

Unfortunately room wasn’t very clean, bin was grotesque, I found some hairs in the sink and there were cobwebs in the low windows with a spider in. The bed was very bumpy and uncomfortable. Very noisy location. Also, cleaner was cleaning courtyard outside the window at 3.30/4, with his phone on full volume, watching something whilst pouring buckets of water over the cobblestones. When I went to shut the window (although it was 25 degrees that night), the cleaner proceeded to put on his torch and shine it up through the windows. Very odd. Although it was a cheaper stay, it could have been much better.

A bit disappointing

Location was pretty good. Close to restaurants and supermarkets.

Staff wasn’t very helpful. Just gave us the key and that’s it. Didn’t even tell us where to park. Beds were not comfortable, no parking or breakfast. Very expensive for what you get.

A shocking waste of money for a very uncomfortable nights stay.

Very uncomfortable. Dirty carpet. Blind hanging off the frame & in this heat you couldn’t lift it to get any air. No fan. Stained cover but worst of all we couldn’t shower as there was no hot water. Nobody in attendance. Had to boil a kettle to shave. It really was beyond awful.

Not good, would not recommend.

Staff members were helpful and friendly and moved us to sister accommodation when we complained.

Room was dirty, floor in particular needed vacuuming. Blind in bedroom hanging off! Lumpy pillows. Uncomfortable bed. No where to put anything. No hot water on the morning we left and went else where. Pub was closed all throughout our stay due to staff shortages so we couldn't eat there.

Breakfast was at a different location locally: very good. Rooms were OK, if fairly basic.

Staff at the opposite pub were friendly but our pub wasn't open

Bed uncomfortable, need new mattresses. Bathroom dirty, blind broke. No spoon to make cup of tea in the morning. Pub was not open. Rooms need doing up and bathroom needs a good scrubbing. Right in centre of town. Ty Morgan's sandwich was the most expensive greasy mushroom & bacon rind sandwich I have ever had, even the dog wouldn't eat it

Weekender Comfort

We were visiting Rhayader for a freinds farewell party on the weekend. I had searched a family room and booked a double in error. The owner of the Crown was incredibly kind and understanding and allowed me to stay at a room that became available around the corner at Ty Morgan. It was very graciously handled.

The shower head was a trickle and did not run long enough to wash. It was piping hot to start and suddenly cold. Room 2 !!

Good stay overall

Location is great and parking is close by. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The room is a good size and the beds are comfortable. Prices of food and drink are very reasonable.

Stairs leading up to the rooms are very spongy to walk up. The bathroom had mould to the ceiling and shower.

Bargain stay in Rhayader

Especially friendly welcome by host Angela. In spite of being a compact room with double bed and small en suite it was very pleasant to stay in. Great arrangement with the local cafe for dropping off keys upon check out (10am) and of course no pressure to finish breakfast by a given time. Rhayader itself had points of interest and some quirky shops.

The mattress had perhaps seen better days, and there was quite alot of early morning (staff?) noise in the service area below the room(s).

Nice but needs a clean

The room as a family travelling was great and I was very pleased with the size of the room for three people and the value for money - well actually it’s two rooms and a separate bathroom - which I thought was great The staff were really friendly and accommodating for our late arrival

The property is in need of a good deep clean, especially the bathroom. Some of the towels and bed linens were stained. The pub across the road turned into a nightclub on a Saturday night which didn’t finish until 1am, the property being as old as it is and no secondary glazing we may as well have had our own party with their music.

The location was perfect for exploring the elan valley. The food and service was excellent.

The shower was awful, lack of pressure. The toilet seat wasn’t secured properly. The toilet roll holder fell off several times. The bed was so so uncomfortable we hardly slept. The door we had trouble locking. The place looked like it needed a clean.

Fine for heavy sleepers

Checking in was done in the middle of a busy restaurant / pub. We did arrive later but still made us very uncomfortable carrying our bags etc through. Room was directly above the bar and was very noisy until closing time at 11 we had our 5 yr old with us so wasn’t ideal. Bathroom floor was very dirty Toilet flush was just a metal rod Our room was directly opposite another pub that opened late and it was very loud.

Lovely comfortable place to stay. Food was exceptional as where the staff.

Loved the staff and the food in the restaurant. Beds were comfortable, and facilities were clean . My fault when booking I didn't realise it would be up some wooden stairs and my daughter struggle with fear of heights coming down them.
