About this apartment rental

The apartment is on the top floor of an ancient building in the old town of Menton directly behind Eglise St. Michel. It has a charm of its own, being converted into one large studio, capturing both the view of the sea-scape, rooftops as well as lemon and orange groves and up to the old cemetery. The apartment is quiet, peaceful and spacious and yet is in the heart of this wonderful town.

Menton provides all year round cultural interests........A wealth of exhibitions, museums, galleries, music events to suit all tastes, sports events, gourmet restaurants and many long established gardens that are open all year round. Transport by bus and train to hill villages, surrounding areas of charm and across the boarder into Italy are affordable and frequent.

The microclimate makes it a perfect holiday destination at any time of the year.

I went to stay at this charming apartment this year (2012) in October and had a wonderful time. The flat sits in the very heart of the old town proper. Only a few moments walk from the shops. Nice and quiet location, with fantastic views in both directions - the sea and the hills. My son enjoyed running up and down the steps into town.... Counting them as we marched.... There are at least 5 different sets of steps to take, making the experience even more magical.. Everything included was nice and clean.. Highly recommended

this charming apartment is in the beautiful old town of menton. the room is open and airy with spectacular views on both sides. the owner gave me all the information i needed and was very helpful. i would definitely recommend this property. my favourite bar is the beach bar just over the italian border.

First off all the apartment is very dirty. Everywhere was dust. The apartment is max for 2 people and is not for old people or for a tourists with little children because the staircase is very steep. In the apartment was almost no place for our own things. I had the impression that we live in rag-and-bone man's house. Beds are too old. Not for sleep.

I stayed at thiis very quaint and cosy studio apartment in July and loved it. Yes, one does have to go up some steep stairs to it but it is in a very accient building with tons of character and if you are fit, it's not difficult to go up to. it's right in the middle of the old part of town and is situated in a very quiet street. As I live in central London, I am use to accient buildings. I will definately go back and stay there again. I appreciate that this studio apartment is the owners second home so her personal items there did not bother me. She left enough room for me to arrange my stuff for the time I was there.

For four years now, we have enjoyed Jill’s lovely apartment in the old town of Menton. It has a perfect location, just a short walk from the stores, restaurants and the sea but is still quiet and peaceful, with no traffic disturbing. Located in the old town means that this apartment, like all apartments in the old part of town, is full of charm, like the steep stairs, the tiled floors and the visual wooden beams. We were happy to notice that there is now also wifi in the apartment. We also have to comment on the earlier review, made by Michael from San Fransisco. We arrived after them and the cleaning lady spent the whole day trying to clean up the mess after the previous renters. Besides leaving the apartment extremly dirty they also left empty bottles, full trashbins and broken interior. They had also completely rearraged the furniture in the whole apartment. At 6 pm the cleaning lady had to let us in since we had been waiting with our baggage for several hours. Despite the fact that she had worked hard all day (which we had seen for ourselves) we still had to start our visit by once again wiping the floors and rearranging interiors. The cleaning lady declared that she was shocked by the way the previous renters had left the apartment and stated that she had never seen anything like it before. Judging from the mess that met us, we can also draw the conclusion that the previous renters behaved in an absolutely non acceptable manner.

Apartment rented eight weeks May 5th - June 30th 2012. Before renting we met owner and were reassured about condition of apartment. We specifically enquired about the kitchen because: it was not visible in any VRBO or owner provided photos and we planned to use fresh produce in preparing lunch and dinner. I provide separate lists of good and poor features. Good list: Street door-double lock; hot water-gas heat; radiators; sea view, park, sea wall (NO beach view as stated in description); garden view; sectional sofas; internet; crocks; living room spot lights. Bad list: Decrepit exterior (stairwell windows, weather wall blister); steep stairs (badly worn, poor railing –three steps short at bottom-my granddaughter slipped and fell); no upper landing light-we were given a flash light; cluttered 3rd floor landing (mattress, sewing machine, broken lamps, old paint pot, boots); old door key, door lock (broken metal housing, exposed mechanism, dead bolt did not engage); poorly light kitchen, no kitchen cabinets, badly scratched frying pan, no sharp knives, small refrigerator poorly insulated, broken toaster tripped fuse, electric hot plate did not work, very old electric oven barely functional (broken rotisserie, no thermometer), counter tops with black algae in cracked grouting, under countertop space stuffed with plastic bags, personal clothing, tools, repair items, wire frame tray under oven with plastic bags, open food packages, gin bottle; uneven apartment floor (tiles-many irregular, broken or loose, disintegrating grouting required frequent sweeping, vacuum cleaner did not work); NO CARPETS on floor - contrary to photos; bathroom with small shower (turning around was a scolding experience, pan edged in black algae, shower head could not clamped in a fixed orientation, smelly toilet seat with peeling underside, broken shelves, shelves occupied by plastic bags of owner items); no pillows for bed (we were told to stuff sofa cushions into pillow cases); TV with wonky stand, DVD player stopped working after three weeks; old Aiwa music system only played tapes, disks usually hiccupped; one small terrace table for the entire apartment, no make-up table, no study table, no dining table; coffee table with broken leg; very small closet space; bric-a-brac items in corners; information brochures stuffed into magazine holders; broken cabinet used as repository for broken items like floor lamp; trolley bag with broken wheel (fell off on first trip to market).

We loved the place. It is in the old city, among the cobblestones and wonderful old buildings. Restaurants and stores are a wonderful 5 minute walk. The place was clean, had a great view to the sea through the town and was stocked with everthing we needed. The TV did not have cable but a vast assortment of English DVD's. I would have liked something more than Masterpiece Classics and UK Movies but the charm of the place and the trips to the sea were more than special. The only bed in the living room was a pull out though and was not comfortable for two. We slept on the couch instead and that was the only set back. The shower was also very tight but that is Europe.

I spent two weeks in this flat. It is a large studio with everything you need. A very pleasant place. I still miss opening those old shutters and seeing the beautiful Mediterranean every morning. The view from the other windows is just as nice, looking onto a small private garden. Menton is a quiet and peaceful city, one of my favorites. And I discovered, through a friend's tip, one of the best restaurants there which I highly recommend: L'O à la bouche just down the street from the Hotel Napoleon. Be aware that this flat is on the third floor so you need to be agile.
