Ryokan Asunaro

We had a fantastic stay at Ryokan Asunaro. The ryokan is beautiful, authentic, and perfectly maintained, offering a genuine traditional Japanese experience. The staff were exceptionally kind and welcoming throughout our stay. The breakfast was excellent and one of the memorable experiences of our trip, allowing us to enjoy local specialties in a traditional setting. A wonderful place to stay in Takayama that we would gladly recommend to other travelers.

The western style (Junior Suite) was great: comfortable, nice decor & spacious as described. We did not use the onsen facility (not on our bucket list). The hotel was nicely different from the modern high-rise facilities we used elsewhere in Japan. It is conveniently located between the old town and the railway / bus stations. The neigbourhood is quiet, though as others have mentioned, there are no special views. It was the first time that we had a Japanese breakfast and we chose to have it again the following morning. My wife liked her choice of yakata! PS Takayama is well worth the visit.

Nothing of importance but western guests should be aware of the need to keep taking shoes on and off!

The futon beds were comfy and we slept well. Room amenities was also ample . Staff were helpful and kind

We had to wear their house slippers throughout ryokan and they were not comfortable for our feet as we need support to our soles. The onsen water was noT hot enough and I wasn’t sure if the water had any therapeutic benefits. The Kaiseki was not impressive and the Hida beef offerings were very skimpy
