Very small room for the price...unable to get hot food on the Sunday night which still seems to be an issue..no hot breakfast as part of the price so after a long walk on the Sunday I didn't get any hot food until I left on the Monday apart from a small bowl of chips..a small bowl and chips and glass of diet coke £10:95..very high prices. The bed was hard...around the bottom of the shower not in great condition....price didn't reflect the standard..I think the price is based on the location..you could find nicer for cheaper

Have been visiting this hotel on and off for the past 25 years & have witnessed many improvements

The friendly staff, the excellent views from the rooms balcony, the open fire and seating, the pay as you go for drinks etc, the view and sounds of the railway opposite, cleanliness of rooms and bathrooms.....

Be Warned. When booking your room the breakfast that's included is continental only (which is lovely) but a cooked breakfast is not included in the price of the room, there is a supplement to pay if you prefer a full english breakfast.

Great Hotel 👍 Highly recommend

Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Hotel was clean and the food and drinks were great. Brilliant atmosphere and beautiful location. Perfect place to relax or to use as a Base for hiking. Will definitely book again.

Parking wasn't the easiest. Car park available by hotel with limited parking with an overflow car park available further up. Not ideal access to the hotel from the overflow which is via some steep steps. Room was smaller than I hoped for a junior suit. These are just minor niggles though and the pros greatly outweigh the cons.

Uncomfortable beds,had to park up a steep staircase with child and luggage,definitely not worth the money I paid the hotel also had an unusual smell which wasn’t very pleasant

Nice location but felt insulted by the breakfast, the hotel legacy deserves better

The location is everything about this hotel. You go for the river. The staff were friendly.

The breakfast is a problem a big problem. You don't go to a hotel like this to receive the cheapest food possible. It's to the point it's an insult. The breakfast is now continental style. The food quality is so cheap and the minimum is out. So you have to prompt staff to refill everything... Even the milk and juice. Cost cutting in such a way is not something that would encourage people to have a good experience or return. The rooms are not cheap so you don't expect this. 40 years we've been coming. This drop in standard has lost is now. We are very sad about it.

Wonderful Chainbridge

It is a beautiful old hotel full of character and wonderful views especially of the river. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The suite was very spacious and cosy and the bed really comfortable.

It's a shame they have stopped doing full English/Welsh breakfasts, however, the Continental breakfast was nice.

After many stays our recent one dissapointing!!!

Having stayed here with my husband on numerous occassions yiu cannot get a better setting beautiful views and of course the amazing river dee..it really is picture postcard and so relaxing.

Our last visit start of November 2025 unfortunatly were left feeling dissapointed. Firstly we usually pay around the same price for B&B each time we visit, this time we sat at our table expecting a full English( or wesh)breakfast as we have always had before( we dont have this at home so when we go away its a real treat) only to be told you have to pay extra now, and only get a continental breakfast, this was a bit let down for us as we are not really into pastries/ yoghurt/ cereal eaters. Also we have had brilliant nights sleep and comfy bed on previous stays, this time the bed was so hard I hardly slept. Then, on leaving just a box to pop your room key in... no customer service what so ever, no one asking how was your stay? Etc Etc....myself and my husband feel that this hotel is living now solely off its location and not providing the extra bit of personal service..All our previous stays have been in the summer , except this time, in the evening it was quite chilly whilst having a drink in the bar, we even moved to sit by the area by the fire..but that wasnt fired properly do didnt let out much heat. All in all we have mixed feelings on returning to The Chainbridge unfortunatly!!!..

Nothing that can’t be helped. 2 car parks - one on the same level as the hotel, but driving is very tight. Or, one up the hill, but it requires walking up some rickety steps. Neither are ideal, but they are fine, and nothing can be changed about this. Only other thing might be to have normal sized cups rather than teacups in the room.

Perfect location with great views

Perfect location across from Berwyn station, one of the stops for the steam trains. Canoeists supplied some entertainment too. Room was basic but clean and the balcony was just fabulous. Booked a table for dinner. Not a huge choice of food but it was hot, tasty and plentiful. Staff were lovely.

The room was so warm! We turned the heating off but it was still too much. We slept with the window open and still managed to sleep despite the thunderous Dee just below. Continental breakfast was good, but a full English would have been better. Again, the staff were great - friendly and helpful.

The chainbridge hotel is in the beautiful location of Llangollen Wales , it don't really matter what the weather is doing as it's beautiful all year round , chainbridge hotel very clean and comfortable place to stay and only a mile away from the town , Staff where great and friendly, but only do continental breakfast, but was plenty of choice,

This hotel only has a 1 food rating was we eat out for evening dinner as lots of places good to eat , Not saying their food is bad just layed it safe Sonia, water

This was disappointing as the location of the hotel is great but the service doesn’t match

Room was on the small side as advertised, bed was not very comfortable. They was no evening meal available on a Sunday night. This was not advertised prior to our arrival. Then no cooked breakfasts in the morning and we heard quite a few people were surprised by this and again not informed of this until we got there and no offer to refill coffee or tea at breakfast.

A disappointing report of an hotel with so much to offer!

So this ‘visit’ was booked on behalf of some very good friends to allow them to have a great weekend away for a significant birthday. The facilities were as I remember them, but sadly since, I understand, new ownership, the food was not. Staff I’m told were excellent, but apologies for new owners is not a good sign!

We absolutely Love this hotel and it's location on the riverside is fabulous. The addition of balconies overlooking the river was genius. The staff are fantastic, especially Sophie, Gemma and Lisa - they couldn't do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble. They're all excellent assets to this hotel. We stayed for dinner on 3 nights and the food was good. I especially enjoyed the fishcake, but was disappointed there was only one. Lamb, beef brisket and scampi were also lovely. I would highly recommend this hotel and if you're water lovers, the sound of the river is wonderful.

Parking isn't the best, but I don't see how that can be improved. We absolutely Hate the stairs, both having mobility issues, but it's our choice to take a room with a balcony over the river - there are downstairs rooms on the canal side of the hotel. I was disappointed that there were no hot options for breakfast now, but the buffet was good and I can totally appreciate why they only offer this now with the cost of everything going sky high. All in all I would still recommend and will definitely be returning again and again.

The room was very disappointing and nothing like the rooms advertised on booking.com It was tired, drab and gloomy. We were so disappointed we asked if we could get a refund and look for somewhere else to stay (as the hotel was fully booked) but were told that this could only be done through booking.com. Although the receptionist was polite, nothing was suggested to improve the situation. We were shown the room opposite ours by some other guests - their room was as advertised and was 15 pounds cheaper than we had paid. We had booked a family room several months ago, we ended up coming without our daughter and had asked on arrival if we could change to a double room. We appreciated that this wasn't possible due to the hotel being fully booked, however, the standard of the family room and it costing more than the lovely room opposite just isn't good enough, nor is the refusal to refund us when we didn't want to stay.
