For the less energetic, sit back, relax and watch the every-changing scenery this beautiful area has to offer. In all, a visit to the Orkney Islands will be remembered with many happy memories. A hidden gem. Beautiful home with really thoughtful gestures. We could have easily spent our whole week enjoying the breathtaking views of Newark bay. Dogs, children and adults were perfectly catered for. The house was so warm and comfortable it provided us with an ideal base from which we could explore. With a kitchen better equipped than our own, we were able to make the most of fresh food. We have returned home already wishing we were back! The best accomodation we have ever stayed in!

Had an excellent October break at Egypt.
Had an excellent October break at Egypt.
Had an excellent October break at Egypt. The cottage is really well equipped, really warm and cosy, and has amazing views across Newark Bay from the living room and the main bedroom. The telescope was a nice touch for watching out too. We received a welcome pack when we arrived which was much appreciated. Susan, the owner, was tremendously helpful and friendly. The location is excellent as a vantage point, and a brief walk down the road and a track gets you to a beach or along the South Ronaldsay coastal path. Orkney has excellent, quiet and straight roads, so although at first glance the location seems quite remote, we could easily access all the sights on the island and the Orkney mainland. There really is so much to see and do on Orkney, from beachcombing on lots of varied beaches, to loads and loads of historic sites. We struggled to see everything we wanted in a week (and that's with some things closed for winter in October). If you do stay here, there's lots of lovely pottery in the cottage, hand-made by the owner. We'd recommend a trip to her workshop where you can buy some of it as a reminder of a great holiday.

Egypt is a lovely place to stay.
Egypt is a lovely place to stay.
Egypt is a lovely place to stay. The view is wonderful. The house is very comfortable and well furnished in a tasteful and artistic way. We thought it had everything possible you would need, and some delicious local produce was provided for us on arrival as well. There is also an excellent restaurant in St Margaret's Hope open all day , and a shop for groceries. The road up to the house is steep, but did not cause us a problem . Perhaps the only slight criticism would be that the double beds were a little on the small size for us because we have king-size beds at home. Otherwise this is a perfect house in a perfect spot and we would love to stay there again one day. Highly recommended.

A lovely house in a very pretty location.
A lovely house in a very pretty location.
A lovely house in a very pretty location. The coastal path which was 500m away is a delight. From the living room window we saw curlews, great skuas, a hen harrier and a corncrake. Even on rainy days the view was beautiful. No pubs or restaurants are within walking distance, which wasn’t a problem for us.
