Could have been brilliant but needs a complete overhaul

The location of the property was good easy access to the town Centre and there was great deal of space.

The accommodation was dirty, the downstairs toilet had mould from a previous upstairs previous leak and smelled accordingly. The vacuum didn’t work and all glasses and cutlery had to be washed before use. Wouldn’t recommend.

The strong smell of air freshener on arrival gradually faded leaving a slightly musty smell downstairs. Parking was tight.

We booked last minute so we were really pleased to get such a good property in such a good location.

Whoever built the property 20/30 years ago did a really good job. Two bathrooms and a downstairs toilet/ utility room- very unusual in a holiday cottage of this size. Excellent heating and hot water, and double glazing. Comfortable beds and sofa. Fantastic location on the edge of the town. Didn’t take the car out for 2 days because shops, restaurants and local walks were all close by. So is the train station.

The waste pipe to the bath was broken before we arrived and water had flooded the utility room downstairs. The maintenance guy arrived the morning after we did and fixed the bath, but obviously the flood had left a damp smell and water damage which is going to take time to sort out. We kept the door shut and the extractor fan on as much as possible. It didn’t really affect our stay. Kitchen and bathrooms are tired and need some updating especially the shower and shower screens, but they were clean and everything worked so only a minor grumble. Parking. There are 5 cottages and only room for 6/7 average sized cars. This should be put on advertising and rental sites as it could be a problem when renters bring more than one vehicle. There is a good public car park a few yards away. Free between 6pm and 8am or currently £41 for 7 nights. No tumble drier and only a very small airer with little space to put it. No outdoor space. Just a bench out side the front door would have been nice as we had very hot weather.

Great cosy place!

The place is very nice and comfortable. They left everything clean and is nicely decorated, with everything you need for a comfortable short stay. A very short walk from the city center. Generally speaking, the house is very good!

Communication with the owner/administration was not very effective or timely. They either took very long to reply or would not reply at all (once).

Great location for short break

Town centre ideal for what we wanted, clean and tidy.

It would have been nice if we were left a couple of full toilet rolls for our two night stay. One of single beds was very squeaky, which disturbed sleep.

Property was not cleaned very well. Complimentary items not provided. IE long life milk, dishwashing liquid, dish washer tablets, toilet paper, cleaning products. Only one tea towel. Rubbish piled up in courtyard rotting and smelling. Bedding old, faded and worn.

Self catering 2 bedroom house. Well fitted kitchen with all the mod-cons. Spotlessly clean and comfortable. Off street parking. Handy for town centre. Good information pack.

Numbers on the keysafe are very small and difficult to see when it's dark. They are also very fiddley.

Brief stay.

Location was really good. Liked that there were 2 full bathrooms and a downstairs toilet.

Overall the property needed freshened up and areas of damp and mould dealt with. The towels smelt as though they hadn’t been dried properly. Could do with some better quality bedding. Despite this, it probably wouldn’t stop me from staying again for a short trip.

King family

Clean, quiet and a reasonable price. Even little things like tea and coffee, showe gels and cleaning bits being available was a really nice touch. Even the use of smart TV stuff was very welcome after a long day walking round the lakes.

It may seem harsh, but only 1 half of the toaster was working and the blinds in the front room need a bit of looking at. But nothing that ruined the experience of staying

Great location, a few minutes walk from the shops and bars. Very clean and comfortable. Already booked a second stay here!

The location of the property was good and the host was very responsive. The beds were done well and was spacious.

The property was old, had cracks and peeled paint. The house was not very clean. The toilets had tissue and not well cleaned.And there was a smell in the house which was not welcoming.

I liked how clean the house was especially the kitchen and utensils. the rooms were very basic but clean, as was the bathroom in fact the whole house from top to bottom was immaculate there was everything you would need in the cupboards salt, tea coffee, sugar, we left a thank you card for the cleaner she is definitely worth keeping and we will definitely be back. thank you so much for a lovely stay x

we didn't like the state of the mattresses if we hadn't took the covers off we wouldn't of seen how stained they were I think you could do with buying mattress covers terry towelling water proof covers x still come back and stay tho x

Great base for Cumbria Way

This property was super clean (compliments to the cleaner!) and had plenty of toilets which is a bonus for a group. It is just round the corner from the start of the Cumbria Way and central for town too; which is why we booked the one night stay.

The usual wear and tear of the property and uncomfortable dining chairs, (blinds not working properly and mattresses and bedding need seriously refreshing). Fixing little things like this to be in line with the super cleanliness would really raise the profile of this property.

Very cosy home.

Very clean, excellent heating, good layout. Good parking outside unit. Thr beds are very comfortable. The host responded quickly and gave a solution to hot water issue. Checking instructions easy to follow and house instruction book had excellent restaurant recommendations.

Very squeaky floor boards upstairs, I woke my husband up when I walked about during each night. Many little maintenance issues (ie plugs that don't fit, light bulbs out) that niggled for money spent renting property. Don't be put off by dirty tile floor at entry and kitchen - it is grout that was not wiped off when it was wet, not dirt. The house is spotlessly clean. A new maintenance man is on the job, so hopefully, all will be fixed soon.

Lovely accommodation with thoughtful hosts

It was really nice that basics had been provided such as tea, coffee, washing up liquid, cleaning products etc.. the place was immaculate and very well kept. They had even left some dvds and books to read. The owners left a booklet with lots of really useful information of things in the local area and the best places for food. We were very impressed with the accommodation and it was only 10 minutes away from the zoo.

Somebody not staying in the accommodation had parked there which meant we had to park awkwardly to fit into the parking area. The only other thing was we hadn’t realised the accommodation had stairs and no stair gate.

Would have liked a shelf for small bedroom- perhaps in bathroom alcove . For toiletries etc. Also small coffee table to put cups on to protect carpet. Hall doormat, to protect lovely new carpet in bad weather .
