Hostal el Vaquero

Hostal El Vaquero was an absolutely wonderful find near Quilotoa Crater Lake. The rooms were comfortable, spotlessly clean, and incredibly cozy—exactly what we needed after a day of exploring. Our group had three adjoining rooms connected by a small shared living room, which gave us the perfect combination of privacy and a comfortable space to relax together. The hosts were exceptionally warm, friendly, and accommodating from the moment we arrived, and check-in couldn’t have been easier. One of the unexpected highlights was the sauna and steam room, available for a small additional charge. After being out in the cool Andean air, they were fantastic. We were served dinner at 7 p.m. and breakfast the following morning, and both the food and service were excellent. Everything about our stay felt welcoming, relaxed, and thoughtfully cared for. I highly recommend Hostal El Vaquero. It’s a little off the beaten path, close to the spectacular Quilotoa crater lake, and perfect for adventurous travelers as well as those more particular travelers who appreciate comfort, peace, quiet, and good hospitality. And did I mention the adorable llamas? They were the perfect finishing touch to a memorable stay. **Five stars from us!**

The hosts were amazing and the food has been the best food out of the 4 hostels I’ve stayed at here. The room was comfortable, a bunch of blankets, clean, and hot water was available.

To get there at night was a little confusing, but not a huge deal.

Lovely location on the edge of gorge. Very friendly staff. The sauna was so good after a long day of walking. Food was excellent and plentiful and the beds were the most comfortable I have slept in in Ecuador
