Artist Loft - Modern Stay in Historic Old Town

Very nice apartment, well equipped, clean, in a very good location in the center of Funchal.Definitely recommend that apartment and the price was also ok and fair.

The location was lovely. Very easy to access all relevant parts of Funchal. Not too loud, but not too remote either. The team was communicative and helpful as well. I wish I had more time this trip to explore because having this place as home base was excellent. .

There is nothing that wouldn't prevent me from immediately staying again. There were a couple dead bugs in the building entry way, but never in the apartment. The apartment was cleaned right before I arrived and smelled strongly of detergent but that dissipated quickly and without any issue. I would stay here again either way.

The apartment was spacious and very nicely decorated. It was very close to The Plaza and the municipal gardens and a short walk to the center of Funcal. There is everything you need in the fully equipped kitchen to cook for yourself. There was a bottle of water, condiments in the cabinet which is a nice touch, including salt and pepper; oil and vinegar; some tea bags, sugar and coffee pods for the coffee machine. The well equipped kitchen included a large fridge freezer and a washing machine, with laundry pods. There was also a dishwasher which we did not use. Cleaning products in the kitchen and also toiletries in the bathroom. Communication with Oxana was very good, she responded within a good time to our issues. We found the apartment very cold and the hairdryer was blowing cold, even on the high heat setting. We asked for a replacement hairdryer and a small heater and they were there the following day. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was of a good standard. We requested a early check in which was granted but in the end did not need, as we were delayed taking off from Manchester; we also requested a later check out, also granted which was very much appreciated!

I feel that the apartment was cold was because it was difficult to leave the shutters open due to the windy weather. When opened, they kept banging shut as they could not be clipped back fully due to the balconies being so narrow and the air conditioning unit being in the way. The only way to stop it banging was to close them, meaning that we did not get the benefit of the sun to warm the room and the room was very dim. The bedroom was cold and slightly damp but the heater helped. There was only one armchair and the small bed settee in the living room. The armchair was ok but the bed settee was very uncomfortable to sit on, it was thin and hard and very low to the floor. The room would benefit from another armchair in my opinion. With the apartment being on the same street as restaurants, it can get very noisy when they are setting up in the morning and closing at night. One of the restaurants across the road always drag their tables instead of lifting them and make the most horrendous scraping noise every morning and evening which is a nuisance when you are trying to watch TV or have an early night. The patio doors and shutters do not keep the outside noise out. We did not get any noise from the neighbours at all. The only other problem was the ants, they were mainly in the kitchen but a couple was seen on the sideboard in the living room. As Madeira has a tropical climate, ants are inevitable, but there are unpleasant when in the kitchen area. We were provide with a insecticide spray but I was reluctant to use it as the ants were on the worktops and by the sink, and I would be preparing food/snacks on the worktops. I just wipe the worktops thoroughly every time I was preparing any food.

The location was near many of the city sights. Check-In was easy and well coordinated. The bed was very comfortable. Response time for questions was very good.

The street was very noisy late at night, with a dance club just outside the front door. The apartment was not as good as the photos appeared. It looked a bit worn out. The shower door leaked water excessively and the sofa was too stained to sit on.
