Misleading and Disappointing Experience

The room was clean and spacious.

First, be aware that although this is marketed as a CERVO property, the building is not located near the elevator to the Sunnegga funicular or the main CERVO building. You must walk uphill for about 5–10 minutes every day carrying all your ski equipment, because the ski locker is not in the main CERVO hotel—it is located near your room further down the road. And no, they do not allow you to use the locker room by the main building next to the Sunnegga elevator, which would save you the hassle twice a day specially if you are traveling with kids. If you want access to breakfast, meals, drinks, or any restaurant, you also have to walk 5–10 minutes to the main CERVO hotel. For the amount of money charged under the “CERVO” name, you would expect the building to be much closer to the main hotel or at least that they provide a buggy or shuttle service to transport guests back and forth to and from the amenities whenever needed, especially if you are traveling with little ones, as we did. None is offered. The building located 5–10 minutes away has no amenities at all—no front desk, no pool, no restaurant, nothing. You are forced to go back and forth to the main hotel for everything. Unfortunately, the staff did not feel genuinely caring. They were polite, but only did the bare minimum, and often made us feel like we were an inconvenience because we were staying in the building down the road rather than the main hotel. That said, most people at the main restaurant were very nice. A special shoutout to Alfredo, who was consistently kind, helpful, and always smiling. In the past, I have stayed at the two hotels just down the road and had great experiences. I was always curious about staying at CERVO, so we decided to try it this time. Now that we have, I can confidently say that I would never stay at CERVO again. For the price, those other hotels offer far better value, and the CERVO experience felt misleading given the premium pricing.

Highly recommend and would stay again!

This is a great property and would definitely stay again! Brand new building and appliances/furnishings and felt very warm and comfortable. It was great to have a kitchen area and the apartment had plenty of space in the living and bathroom. It’s a bit of a walk from the Main Street but was lucky enough to have had a great view of Matterhorn from the room - which made the longer walk worth it!! The free canvas bag and slippers were a nice touch as well.

We didn’t realise the actual hotel reception and lobby is a further walk up the hill - roughly an additional 5 mins but the hill is a bit steep. So just wish there was a bit more instructions on where to arrive to. Asking for help to take 2x luggages to reception upon checkout was not free - which was a bit disappointing given all the heavy snow and water on the hill to walk up in.

We will be back!

The apartment was great for two friends (#801) - big enough to keep our bags open but still out of the way from each other. It was the ground floor, no noise from others using lobby could be heard and great view of Matterhorn. It’s modern and quite allergy-free. A good kitchen to quickly make a snack if need be (so many good places to eat though!). The towels were changed/room cleaned mid-week (stayed for a week) - found this very reasonable as the cleaners left more towels for us if required, this included face washers. Location was good but may be difficult with smaller children or for the unfit as there can be a 150-200m walk up hill to the Cervo elevator (directly attached to Sonnige station) or 150-200m downhill into town. It was no problem for us fit 55 year-olds.

All was perfect … but if you like a firm pillow, take one.

Superb

Unblock view to Matterhorn and the village. A pleasant walking distance from the train station when the weather was good (with a little uphill). The apartment was clean, spacious, tastefully decorated - bathroom was huge; fully equipped kitchen.

Credit card was charged without prior confirmation and communication. The apartment door - struggling to lock because I'm not used to the door locks in Switzerland. With help from the staff, I learnt something.

Fantastic

Beautiful view to the Matterhorn, the terrace is fantastic to have nice dinner with the view. Has all kitchenware you need. Bed is very comfortable and bathroom is huge. Dogs are allowed.

Views to die for

The views are, as advertised, absolutely stellar, location quiet yet easily accessible (make sure to pick up cheeses and yogurts from the little cheese maker's shack just down the road from the flat!), beds super comfortable, bedrooms beautiful and a nice size and bathrooms large and nicely appointed. The fondue and raclette sets were also a very nice touch. I can also recommend dinner at the hotel's Bazaar restaurant, they had tasty food and drinks and a nice, relaxed atmosphere.

The fireplace did not work properly (the ventilation does not work as it should causing smoke to flow in even when all necessary vents are open due to an under pressure in the flat caused by the bathroom ventilation systems being on, as explained by my engineer father), so the whole flat has a rather strong smokey smell, even when the fire place isn't in use. This should be fixed by the hotel and instructions left on how to avoid smoke coming into the flat when in use. Sofa and living room carpet also not in the best shape with quite a lot of stains and holes (in the carpet). Kitchen could be a little more well equipped, it's missing things like scissors, baking paper, one or two oven dishes and dish cloths.

Loved the concept of the new hotel complex

We have stayed in Overlook lodge several times because we like the studios and the appartments which correspond to our type of decor and comfort. The situation is also perfect. We found the new vegetarian restaurant Bazaar very much to our taste as we are not meat eaters. we're looking forward to tryng the new spa next time.

Breakfast was excellent but rather expensive.

Best view in Zermatt

Cannot say enough good things about the view. Simply amazing. Having the kitchen is a wonderful addition. It is well equipped for anything you want to cook including raclette and fondue. Simply a magical apartment.

Check-in/communication is a bit odd since this Overlook lodge is not connected to the CERVO hotel and the staff work in the hotel. But the people are friendly and helpful to make everything work out as best as possible.
