Iyok Ami (Madre Tierra)

It was great

A charming wooden house surrounded by the quietness of nature and beautiful walking trails. Make sure to bring a sweater as this region up in the mountains is the coldest of Costa Rica (7°C at night in December).

Lovely views and walks with friendly staff who were helpful and very hospitable. Great scenery and trails.

It was cold. We were expecting this, but still hoped the fire would provide more heat. Very rustic, and basic….to be expected but bathroom particularly cold.

The first thing to say is that we arrived late and left the next morning following a Queztal tour, so we didn't get to see or experience the views and environment, which was a great shame for us as those aspects are Iyok Ami's great selling point. Our reason for visiting was to join a guided trip to see the Resplendent Quetzal, so this lodge is really well located. The lodge itself is very rustic and has a lovely large restaurant area. Our room was unheated but had plenty of blankets to ensure a warm, comfortable night's sleep. While the layout of our part of the lodge was quirky, the separate shower was hot and the bathroom clean. The owner was very friendly. I wish we'd had more time to enjoy the lodge's environment, which includes several kilometres of private trails.
