Great view, but needs some TLC

Great flat with a stunning sea and pier view, perfect for my purpose of working on the beach replenishment. Spacious lounge/diner/kitchen. comfy, spacious, clean, well-appointed, has a bath. Provided milk, bottled water, loads of spices. Hosts responsive, but really shouldn’t manage a place so arms-length that the cleaner can slack off, and drain smells can be so bad.

Dreadful drain smell on first day, somehow dissipated by second day. Tiny dessert spoons The ⁠coastal defence works were noisy at night, so used rear bedroom. A couple of cleaning issues: microwave and toaster dirty. Lift didn’t work. Free parking vouchers, but nearest spaces often 5 mins away where couldn’t use the vouchers. No lid on kitchen bin. Cooker hob markings all worn off so had to turn all 4 on to make them work. Host didn’t seem fazed. Very low hot water pressure, just a trickle. Gave up trying to use the TV, couldn’t figure it out (Virgin) via the 3 remotes(!).

Horrendous

We didn’t stay in the property, it wasn’t up to our standard, horrible black areas to skirting, bed linen not ironed and rooms weren’t fresh. Plastic flowers, dirty furniture. Ie grubby arms to chairs. Couldn’t open windows to freshen it up. We stayed one night, beds were such a bad standard, we left the next day.

Cleanliness not good long hair in bathroom and on grubby yellow chair Beds very uncomfortable, Pillow and Duvet in main bedroom need replacing Host told us there would be water and refreshments in the fridge, didn't happen No coffee pods and one toilet roll host organised for cleaner to drop these off the next day.

Everything we could wish for during a short break.

Excellent location. Beach and pier (for fish n chips and kids entertainment) just across the road.Bus stop to Southsea shops 2 minutes away. We loved the large windows (which could actually be opened wide) in the lounge, and the wonderful sea view. Host was friendly and responded promptly to calls.

Amazing location, great flat, friendly host who could ask for more.

The flat is spacious modern and bright with a simply stunning view from the lounge bay window and the front bedroom. You can sit and watch all the boats and ships coming and going day and night then step outside the door cross the road and you are on the beach.

The flat is located in an old hotel so the access areas are quite dark and dated but as soon as you step through the door into the flat and see the sea all that is forgotten.

Amazing family time

Outstanding view. We had most amazing family time. We just sat in the hall for hours and spent time together. Amazing location. The beach is literally a stone throw away. The communication with the host was amazing.

We noticed some minor cleanliness issues. The windows had some smear of icecream most probably by a kid.

Amazing view and right on the beach. I would stay there again!

The view is stunning and we spent hours just watching the many boats in the Solent. The property has two good size bedrooms and a nice bathroom and kitchen. It was a great place to stay.

Being on the sea front there was the expected noise from the road, the pier and the tourists, but it was quiet overnight, so didn’t affect our sleep!

The view is awesome and the location is great and convenient with a parking slot just downstairs of the building.

It would be great to have a washing machine as we have quite a lot of laundry to handle. It may not be a problem if it’s just for short stay.

Something good and something bad

This is a real sea view room and The design of the toilet is simple and clean that's good. Also come with a car park

When i travel the most important thing is the bed. But this bed It stinks of sweat and my wife and I were itchy after a night's sleep. That is really terrible and i guess bed cover has not been washed.

Fantastic view onto the sea and pier!

Ali was the perfect host! Always available and happy to help. When we arrived, there were already groceries waiting for us, so we would be good to go and didn't have to run to the supermarket straight away. Super considerate and much appreciated! Should you need anything else, a supermarket is very nearby. The view from the lounge and one of the bedrooms is stunning! (Do check with Ali, if the scaffolding on the building is gone by the time you want to stay though). We moved the dining table right up to the window and enjoyed looking at the sea every day at breakfast. Gorgeous! Parking was also easy! We had a spot right behind the building. Perfect! We would definitely stay again in this apartment.

The location was excellent. The amount of space was nice.

We contacted the host who assured us there was a lift but we still needed to drag our luggage up a flight of stairs and my husband who has a problem with stairs was not amused! The apartment was in desperate need of a face-lift The old paint and icky corners and a general air of downward slide made me feel slightly tacky with the apartment.

It's not all about location....

Ali the owner was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Gave us ideas for restaurants etc The location of the property is amazing!

Unfortunately, there was scaffolding on the building which very much curtailed our sea view! Considering this was put up 5 weeks ago and we only booked our stay a fortnight ago, nothing was said to us about this. It really did spoil our stay. The apartment had a stale smell to it and just felt a bit unloved. Bits of plaster off the walls, missing bits of bathroom tiles, scuff marks on the woodwork. Very uncomfortable sofa. No tea towel. Tea and coffee provided but no milk. I saw that one review mentioned a welcome hamper - we certainly didn't get this! Very echoey in the main room. Walls terribly thin - we didn't need to put the TV on as we could hear the one from above us! Parking was an issue too as the space we were allocated was then used by someone else. Caused a slight problem plus ended up with us not going out one evening for fear of not having a parking space on return 😕 Sadly also on our last night, other guests in the next door apartment decided to have a domestic at 4.30am in the morning. It was still going on at 10am. Thin walls meant we could hear everything and it was most distressing. We did report it to Ali and he said he'd investigate. We totally appreciate that its a trust built business and you can never be sure what guests will be like. Maybe they were the ones who used our parking space? But if so, then where was their parking space?! Such a shame our stay wasn't great as we had so looked forward to it. We stay away a lot in the UK and the budget we allocated for this stay was slightly higher than others we've had. Just didn't feel it was value for money at all. Location great, but not the best accommodation for the price charged. I don't think you should ever get too complacent - there's always room for improvement.
