Hotel Omodaka

This is a well-run, basically furnished royken for those wanting a simple and practical stay. Its a bit dated but clean and tidy. The staff are very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was very traditional and plentiful but no westernised additions. The onsen was great. There are many local restaurants but you need to check early as often they are shut! The local brewery is a fun visit for beer and sake tasting

Nice view from the window in the room, very relaxing to sit by the window looking at the view and listening to the river sound. The dinner was served in a private room and was very nice. Breakfast was buffet style. Had burger for lunch in the cafe, very nice burger.

Very cramp in the toilet, my knees almost touched the wall when i sat down on the toilet bowl. They should remove the toilet door, then it wont be so cramp inside. The toilet always make a very loud sound when I flush.

Very kind and helpful staff, the owners offered us a shuttle from the station and to the monkey park, which we really appreciated. Our room had an amazing view of the mountains and the river and the Kannon statue, and we enjoyed the traditional Japanese room facilities like the tatami mats, futon bed, floor seating table and yukatas. The hotel interior is a little bit retro, but we liked it as it felt authentic, and everywhere was very clean. There were clean towels and Japanese tea and a flask with hot water waiting for us every day. A kind man at the reception offered us soft pillows in case we don't like the traditional bean pillow, but surprisingly we enjoyed them. We used the public bath at the hotel for a small fee and we especially liked the outside bath, as the water is very hot, it is nice to be outside in the evening to cool down (we visited in June). It is a natural hot spring with high mineral content. Sauna room, bathing amenities and body lotion are available at the onsen. The hotel was quiet, so at times I had the onsen all to myself. The town centre is around 15 min walk from the hotel and it offers a nice variety of restaurants and bars and a supermarket. There's a burger place right next to the hotel with very nice ice cream. We want to come back in winter to experience the onsen and the mountains in the snow too.
