Porfyrousa Traditional Hotel

Visited in July for a week with my partner and we really liked the hotel! The host, Elena is very knowledgeable about wines, history and traditions of the island, and knows the places to suggest to visit. The hotel room was traditional style - made of stone, and the furniture was also quite vintage which we liked. Water from the tap is drinkable and tasty. There is a medium sized balcony with a table and chairs where you can sit and enjoy any time of the day (it is under shadow). On the first floor of the building there are board games that can be borrowed to play. The water in the shower must be heated up before using, and Elena hinted us that it will last for one person, but we personally had enough for both of us. At the same time, in July the cold water was also rather okay (so if you prefer a very refreshing chill shower, then you don't need to heat up the shower). The place has a big fridge and a freezer - very convenient! The bed is big enough and comfortable. Towels were provided. We appreciated the breakfast, everything was made from organic ingredients (eggs from an organic farm, vegetables and fruits from Elena's own garden). The homemade lemonade was absolutely fantastic. Location-wise, the hotel is almost in the middle of the island, so you will be able to reach every place within 10 - 30 minutes driving.

The A/C is not very powerful, and because the bed is located on the second floor it will not get cooled down as fast (warm air is lighter than cold air). The first night it was a bit warm to sleep, but it is because the room was not ventilated before us. Having a fan in the second floor I think would be very nice for such situations. Overall, it did not impact our sleep, and the room was still cooled down. Just keep in mind that it will need more time.

The hostess Elena! She is very passionate about about Kythira and had a wonderful knowledge of local wine and olive oil which she makes herself. This is a beautiful traditional hotel..the best of the places we stayed on the island..very traditional Greek.Would have stayed longer if we could..

Everything was well arranged and the property was fully equipped and very clean. Extra credits to the owner and her daughter that with their kindness and good energy make the stay at Porfyrousa unforgettable! Mylopotamos is also a very cute village, close to all the spots to be visited on the island. Highly recommended!
