Jua House

Jua House is a rare place that genuinely feels like a guest house rather than a hotel, it is warm, unpretentious, and thoughtfully run. The sustainable touches throughout the property feel intentional and the whole space has a kind of quiet ease to it that I didn't expect and didn't want to leave. The rooftop has the best view for sunsets! But honestly, the staff are what make it. Amani went so far above what any guest could reasonably expect: showing me hidden corners of Shela, helping me navigate the village, arranging trips, and making me feel genuinely looked after. As a solo female traveller, that sense of being in safe, caring hands made an enormous difference to my experience. Thomas was consistently communicative and unbelievably accomodating throughout the booking process and stay. If you're weighing options in Shela, you should just go ahead and book Jua House. I haven't encountered hospitality like this in a long time, and I left already hoping to come back!

The staff were so helpful. We arrived exhausted,so they recommended that a local woman, Miriam, deliver a home cooked Swahili meal. It was delicious. They have a bakery downstairs and serve freshly baked goodies for tea every afternoon. The views are magnificent and is hotel is beautiful. Aesthetically pleasing and amazing rooftop area. Cosmos was our captain, a knowledgeable, kind person, who gave us good tips and advice. Breakfast was served overlooking the whole of Shela on the balcony.
