The Half Moon Inn

Convenient as a pit stop when doing a long drive, comfortable clean simple spacious room, housed in a separate building from the main bar & restaurant - which was very dog friendly and served some lovely food. (It’s not on the menu but a great tip, they offer a dog roast dinner) Water in the room fridge was appreciated.

The front door lock wasn’t a bit wobbly and didn’t feel the most secure.

The food in the pub next door looked very good although I didn’t eat there.

The property could do with a new front door for multiple reasons. The locking mechanism was a little iffy and there was evidence slugs or snails that had slid in under the door during the night and left trails all over the floor and my shoes.

This is excellent value, with the added bonus of a fabulous full English breakfast cooked to order. The rooms are separate to the main pub building with plenty of parking available. The room itself was nicely furnished with a small fridge and tea/coffee facilities. They even had sachets of hot chocolate, which is unusual to find in hotels. The staff were friendly and helpful and were able to arrange for our breakfast to be ready at a set time, which was much appreciated as we had to get off quite early. The location was good, it is a short drive to the coast and there is also a lovely river walk just down the road from the pub. We had fish and chips from a locally chippy which were very nice.

The buildings housing the rooms are not very inviting from the outside, but are nice inside. The bed mattress was pretty soggy, I think it might be time for a new one. It is on a busy road, so there is traffic noise, especially if you have the windows open when it is warm weather.

We stayed in room 4. Mattresses on both beds were well passed their best, the beds creaked and groaned without any excess activity. The front door did not fit its frame, there were large gaps letting in a cold draft. The full English breakfast was swimming in grease which is a shame as the sausage and bacon were of a high quality and tasted fantastic in the breakfast stottie I had on morning 2.
