Case-grotte degli Avi, esperienza abitativa in grotta

Location veramente affascinante. Molto pulita e curata ai minimi dettagli. Hoste, perso molto distinta e piacevole, con una passione, un vissuto e una cultura sulla città di Modica tale da riuscita a vivere anche solo dai suoi racconti. Eravamo un gruppo di 8 persone con bimbi e l'accoglienza è stata molto piacevole.

I'm happy our hosts were amenable to giving us access to the unit early due to the bad weather. They were very gracious and the tour of the historical aspects of the place was pleasant.

While I was enchanted by the idea of staying in a cave, I didn't realize just how far we would be from the center of Modica and where most activities, shops and restaurants would be (especially in low season). With a car this location would be ok, but traveling only by taxi and foot we found ourselves quite isolated. The walk downhill wasn't bad but the walk back up at the end of one night was exhausting, and then impossible on a rainy/windy day. Also for me the bed was quite hard with limited too-soft pillows so I didn't sleep well. We could have used more than two large towels for 2 nights as there was no laundry service and with being in a cave, nothing dried out during the day. Also some throw rugs, perhaps, for the cold stone floors in colder months? It's a cramped space with a very narrow bathroom, kitchenette really limited to a sink, hotplate and toaster. Overall an interesting experience but not one I would repeat, personally.
