Great location and awesome staff

Location was great along with friednly and helpful staff Although we didn't book breakfast - we did go into the cafe and breakfast was fab Room was clean and well laid out.

Room was very hot through the night making it hard to sleep - we tried opening windows but facing the main road made it rather noisy Whilst there was tea and coffee facilities, there was no bottled water provided

Great location in shields

Callum gave us a great welcome. Breakfast options were well received. The location was spot on for our needs.

The TV remote did not work properly. Had to use the oil filled heater, as the one radiator was not on enough to warm the room. The bulb in the shower did not work

Nice atmosphere. Bright and cosy coffee bar/restaurant. Although the menu was not extensive the quality and presentation was good. Excellent location. Staff were friendly and chatty.

I’ve stayed there before so knew what to expect. Clean and functional single room

Sound insulation between rooms and the room downstairs could be better. Whilst the location is perfect the street noise can be problematic, and whilst it’s not the fault of the hotel the boy racers going up and down ocean road with their loud backfiring exhausts was irritating

Great Breakfast and easy to check in . I was allowed an extended stay as my meeting had been put back. Comfy bed.

a good place for a short stay.

The place was clean and friendly staff, the room was small however comfortable.

My only complaint will be the use of air wick freshener which was overwhelming of a very strong sweet perfume smell that sometimes felt suffocating, and the amount of fake plants everywhere was a bit overwhelming and took away a little bit of the charm of the place.

Great Location, accommodation a real disappointment at the cost. Overpriced for the quality.

Location was good right in the centre.

Way too noisy at breakfast, music turned up so loud you couldn't have a conversation, staff uninterested other than asking what you wanted for breakfast, main focus seemingly the main focus, why is the tea room not kept closed until after guests are served e.g. after 9am. Selection at breakfast not great, one cup of stewed tea with no offer of refills and cold selection poor, no yogurt, very small portion of cereal. Biscuits in room on first day only and no where near enough milk, having to ask for extra milk each day as well as toilet roll. Uncomfortable flat pillows with no extras in room and fitted sheet that didn't fit. It very much felt as though corners were being cut to the bone. Too much clutter in room, having to move plastic plants and free standing mirrors just to hang clothes. Door locks are a real faff and incredibly fiddly, all to save staff interaction no doubt. Pull cords on blinds not working properly.

Great value for money guest house in a superb location!

The chap working in the restaurant/hotel was excellent - really friendly, welcoming, and informative. We only interacted with one other member of staff and she was also lovely! The location is excellent, just a short walk to the sea-front/amusements etc and there are some fantastic places to eat directly opposite the property. Breakfast was a highlight and served promptly and all of the food we had there during our stay was fantastic - the Betty apple pie being a highlight for mum.

Parking a slight issue, we were unable to get a spot anywhere along Ocean Rd on a couple of occasions, never mind outside the guest house, but to be fair, it did clear out front later in the day. The weather was great during our stay, so it could've just been an exceptionally busy day. Guest house was very clean, but our room had some minor issues (hairs in bath, additional blanket wasn't very clean, and could maybe do with some plumper pillows for the bed) but overall we really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely recommend/return with our dogs.

Staff are very pleasant. Decor is contemporary. The property is clean and everything you need is provided. The coffee shop provides an excellent breakfast which is very reasonably priced.

The Clifton, South Shields

The Clifton is in a perfect location on a central street very near a beautiful park and the beach plus a small walk into town , with many restaurants and cafes on the street. My room was spotless, quiet , dark when blind down and though compact , excellent value for money and had everything I could wish for.
