The double-level suite was incredibly spacious, with a beautifully carved staircase that really stood out. Massive rooms and very clean. The grounds are absolutely stunning, carved cliff took my breath away, especially loved the original infinity pools overlooking the river. (Not sure about the idea behind the new white pools as it takes away from the natural beauty of the place) I also loved the unique touch of being able to access the pool directly from the bathroom in the room.
Overall, it’s an amazing place and perfect for a one-night stay.
Unfortunately, none of us slept well. We couldn’t figure out how to turn off the external garden lights, as the switch was located outside, and the curtains were sheer and see-through. There were also quite loud frogs in the girls bathroom, and the downstairs beds felt very damp—though that’s understandable given the humidity and a pool coming off it.
Staff were lovely but food was terrible compared to what we had been eating in Bali. Tiny tiny portions at dinner, smallest bowl of chips we have ever seen. Breakfast wasn’t great and cold.
Left in the morning and had to purchase everyone another breakfast in Ubud.

On 2nd day, we changed rooms which were good- as we enjoyed our stay and staff also helped us to heat our food.
Staff is polite and courteous.
Avalon castle & spa is a heritage property having high roofs & lot of artifacts to capture your attention. The property requires high maintenance - be it bathrooms; balcony or even the live kitchen. Dust & termites are seemingly visible. The junior suits which had tubs and nice open shower wasn’t even in a condition where we could take shower - there were frogs, centipedes - which made us not use of any of the utilities.
