Location, but no parking wasn't ideal
Hotel was dated, light fitting fell out during the night and no hot water for a shower in the morning! Also the TV was tiny with minimal channels

We hosted a 21st Birthday Party in the Basement venue at the Channings
We stayed with family in the hotel ....and were joined by the youngsters for a great Party on the Saturday night
The team helped to make a very special and memorable occasion
No concerns ....all went very well

Great location, loved the spacious room, great value for money. Bathrooms a little tired but clean and understand they're being refurbed in 2026. Nice to have the bar/restaurant in the hotel. Gorgeous high ceilings and character. Nice garden.
Shame there is no parking available and hard to find street parking. Breakfast was great just they forgot items off the order both days.

A lovely old pub with Sky Sports
A little bit creaky in places. Nothing major.

Nothing not to like.

Staff where very friendly with a warm welcome on arrival. The staff not just covered reception, they also covered the Bar area to. The room was spacious, clean and bedding and towels where crisp and fresh. The heating in the room was controlled by radiatrors with thermostats on them so was able to control the heating.
TV was too small for the room size, and only 2 sachets of Tea and coffee was not enough.

Restaurant, bar and staff lovely.
Our room on top floor was awful, dirty carpets and kettle on floor. Moved to another room a little better but needs a total refurb .

Great location and reasonable room for the price
I was late on checkout for an hour, which I admit is my fault. After reaching the room they were emptying it out and were talking very rudely. They charged me 50£ which i was willing to pay in addition to all the apologies i gave them. Even after paying and being apologetic, they were still rude. Not a great attitude and make me not want to visit again.

There was no hot water on both nights.

As always a great stay in this friendly hotel. Although a bit tired around the edges and in need of redecoration, the hotel is comfortable, very clean and always welcoming.
As mentioned could do with a refurb.

Clean bedding and comfortable bed. Plentiful hot water
Didn’t feel like the room had been decorated since the 1980’s Tired and dreary with marks on carpets, walls and bath. Non working TV and lamp. Bed crushed into wall to fit a double where room should only be a single . The sort of room that is the short straw pick of you work in a hotel and opt to live in. Overpriced for what it offered but Bristol seems to think it’s London at every hotel . 10 years ago this hotel would have £45 and you’d have rolled your eyes at that

Well positioned, food in the restaurant was lovely
We had no hot water but the staff couldn’t do enough to help- we moved rooms and were compensated. TV didn’t work in both rooms-something to do with an aerial problem

The location was great as it was only a 10 minute walk into the city area. The room was spacious and good value for money, also clean. It was also quite a quiet stay which was nice!
Some things needed to be changed like dozens of dead flies inside the bathroom light fixture, damage to the bathroom wall etc. The bed was clean and a really good size but the mattress was too firm for me.

Friendly staff, comfortable room. Superb breakfast. Nice bar in evening with good food. Tea and coffee in room.
TV didn't work. Set was OK but it was displaying message saying no signal coming from aerial. Already in bed in my jammies when I found out, too late to complain.
Shower screen over bath only 6" wide, so water splashing out over bathroom floor when showering.

Great location, excellent pub and gorgeous building.
No escaping the fact that the rooms are dated, need a lick of paint, also not much sound proofing so hearing creeks every two minutes wasn’t great for sleeping.

Lovely staff. Great breakfast. The building itself is very beautiful. Our room was spacious and on the top floor, so was quiet. The room decor is a little tired, but the overall ambience is great and we would certainly stay again. The hotel is in a lovely location in Clifton, a beautiful part of Bristol, within an easy walk of the Clifton suspension bridge and many cafes/ restaurants. This hotel is reasonably priced for Bristol, and its location in Clifton.
We were very happy with our experience. It's worth noting that the hotel also has a thriving pub on the basement and ground floors, so ask for a top floor room if you like quiet, as the first floor might be a little noisy on busy nights. There is no lift, so might be tricky for those with reduced mobility.

The staff member in reception was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Next time I'm in Bristol I shall book to stay at Channing's.
Nothing! Parking was easy to find nearby on the weekend in one of the side streets.

Always return here when in Bristol. Friendly helpful staff. Although dated always exceptionally clean. Good value, lovely location.
Getting a bit dated and shabby round the edges. But being addressed.

It has a lot of potential
It appeared more like a frat house, unhygienic, could do with a repaint and possibly a fan in each room as the moment you open the windows your greeted by a bunch of drunk uni students. Far too expensive for what it is you actually get. The reception looks beautiful and lovely painted windows but other than that nothing but disappointment.

Fantastic location, easy walk into Clifton village and the bridge and also straight to the city centre. Bristol museum and art gallery only 15 minutes away. Lots of eateries nearby. Hot breakfast well cooked and plentiful.
Room was quite small. It did have a bath - lovely. - but it was all a bit bashed about. At breakfast we prefer a teapot, not cups, bags and a vacuum flask of warm water.

Nothing much to like.
Sad, tired and dilapidated describes the room and how I felt after staying here. Hard bed. Furniture didn't really fit. Poor location of power sockets. Poky bathroom with step up to toilet that you could trip over, with a floor that moved like the fun house at the fairground, toilet roll holder only just hanging on, no hooks, a cold tap that ran the water progressively warmer until it went cold. The room was very small, with woodchip on the wall. Noise from outside through single glazing and a sash window that didnt close enough to screw the catch tight. Fortunately only stayed one night.

Good location for our function. Very good breakfast and excellent staff.
Nothing major.

Very dated but nice building
Nothing really, but a nightmare to park! Missed out on Breakfast because i couldn't extend the session anymore. Because it had been parked overnight. Great place and location but parking is bad.

Location
Extremely dated and in dire need of redecoration at the very least, 1st morning the breakfast was superb but on day 2 it was appalling. It was barely cooked and all five of us had a refund from the member of staff running the restaurant that morning, even she agreed it was well below their standards.

One member of staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly - nothing was too much trouble for him.
The cleaning of the room wasn't great - there was a hair in the bath when we arrived. All very functional, but in need of a refurb.

Didn't eat breakfast so can't comment on it. We ate an evening meal there which was reasonably priced. The room was a lovely size and a good temperature. My husband enjoyed walking around the area while I rested after the driving.
The mattress was a bit too firm for my joints but if I stayed again I could put a quilt under me to cushion it a bit maybe. My husband thought the bed was fine. Parking is chargeable on street but free without restriction with a blue badge.

Room was basic but comfortable which is what I expected. The room was clean and comfortable. Nice bath in the morning.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
I would not have the breakfast again, not great and better to go out and get somewhere else nearby

For us the location was convenient. Interesting architecture. Lovely old character building, large rooms in public areas with tall ceilings, cornicing.
Staff all friendly and efficient.
Sadly, this lovely old building not up kept. Peeling paintwork, tired decor throughout. Our accommodation the same. The bathroom was a challenge! Broken toilet roll holder, shower head leaked, the floor creaked really loudly which we laughed at but soon became really annoying. The double room was not much bigger than the bed and the tv a 12 inch or thereabouts. Channings Hotel is in a very desirable area of Bristol and could be fabulous with a serious injection of cash and some creative input.

The people that were there were really friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was good. The beds were comfortable on top of the curtains were a bit dusty. I did mention that but apart from that very happy with the stay.
Yeah, it was just the top of the curtains were dusty where it’s not been hoovered and it’s just sort of settled there over a period of time and they did say that they’re in the process of changing in the curtains but everything else was really clean and tidy beds were good

I needed help getting an important letter printed and the staff were really helpful with that.
On a roasting hot night, in a half empty hotel, being give a room in the attic that was appallingly hot, with a useless, pointless fan. I had a terrible nights sleep made worse by a massive, hot duvet and pillows like trampolines.
Surely, given the extreme weather, they could have offered me a cooler room - anything on the floor below would have been better than my oven.

Location and bar
The bathroom completely stank of cigarettes and then the next morning the bathroom slowly developed a very very strong smell of rotten egg to the point you could not go in there.
10.0 / 10.0
The location, the stuff, the warmth and welcoming attitude.
The breakfast items restocking needs more care. The chef can be more creative in supplying healthy meal choices.
