It is really close to the train station in Lugano - very helpful if you want to catch early morning train to Zurich or Milan

The price doubled in last 2-3 years but there was no change, no renovation or modernization done in the hostel

Great location

Staff very helpful, great location very close to train station and free transport local with pass for staying. Bed comfy and had own light and socket. Big lockers available.

Rooms have 16 bed mixed. Lots of snoring. People came and went out door smoking a lot so smell comes back in up until about 11.30 pm. Not many toilets and showers for 3x 16 bed dorms only 2 toilets and 2 showers.

Great views and comfy room

Great views across Lugano, we had a garden room which was well appointed. The AC was good! The room seas better than expected since we booked via the hostel site.

Not much around the property. So you needed to walk across the station and down the hill. It was Swiss national day and getting into a restaurant without a booking was almost impossible!

The establishment was super complete, with swimming pool, restaurant and breakfast if desired. The staff was also super attentive and pleasant. With amazing views and only 1 minute walk to the train station that connects you directly to the city, there are no problems for those traveling on foot. I will be back soon

Dozens of palms in the garden, nice swimming pool, very close to the railway station and grocery shop. A good address!

A very good place to stay and relax

A gem location with a beautiful garden and view! There is a pool to enjoy this summer heat with a well maintained garden in a villa. The sourrounding is green overlooking the view of Lago di Lugano and most of all its proximity to main train station and bus stop to go to the center.

Too crowded in one room of 16 people hence noise is unavoidable. The kitchen is also too small for everyone to share.

Highly recommend!

I had a fantastic stay at this hostel! The location is perfect—close to city center, public transport and main attractions. It made exploring the city so easy. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful! The hostel itself was clean and well-maintained, which made my stay very comfortable. But the best part? The swimming pool! It was such a nice place to relax, cool off, and meet other travelers. I really enjoyed my time here and would definitely stay again. Highly recommend!

Towels aren’t included—you have to rent one if you want to use it, which felt a bit unnecessary. Luggage storage has a strict cutoff—you can only leave your bags until 3pm on checkout day, which can be inconvenient for late departures.

Great location and peaceful surroundings

Hotel&Hostel Montarina has an excellent location, just a very short walk from the train station. Despite its central location, the atmosphere is very quiet and peaceful. There is a shared dining area equipped with a full set of kitchenware, making it very convenient for guests who prefer to prepare their own meals. I had a very comfortable stay here.

While Hotel&Hostel Montarina has a great location and peaceful surroundings, the room was quite small, and the bed was not very comfortable for someone with a larger body frame. It might be a bit tight for taller or bigger guests, so keep that in mind when booking.

The location is excellent. Since there were only a few guests, it was very quiet. Both the room and the bathroom were clean.

Terrible experience

The buildings and sightseeing of the city are beautiful and close to the main railway station. The staff is kind, but not really helpful. Facilities: you have fridge and enough space outside the room to store whatever you bring Parking is free.

We rented a room for three people and it was so small that we couldn't even store our luggage. They should never rent a room like that for three people. A smell of rotten onions in the air since the rubbish was being stored within the building. We had to book another hotel and moved out and we were lucky we could find one. Otherwise our holiday would be ruined. Before that, however, we had requested another room and they said everything was already booked. Then when we handled over the room key they said they could get us another room for a higher price. So, the staff does not really know what to do in situations like that. Furthermore, the pictures on the site didn't correspond to the room we got and that I blame not only on the hotel and hostel but also on booking.com because they should verify these sort of details by all means. I honestly expected a refund.

A charming hostel near to the station, city center and lake

The hotel and hostel are located in a nice garden, with swimming pool. The location is close to the railway station, the city center and the lake. For us it was perfect place to make a stop on our train travel from Italy to Holland

The facilities were superb. The Staffs were very nice and accomodating, the food was tasty & excellent and the happy hour was a treat for everyone!

Convenient but not ideal

The location was good, near the train station. But the directions to get there were really confusing. There were so many signs for the property but it was gated and there were no arrows towards the entrance. Walking from the train station I did unnecessary stairs just to go back down and around before I found the entrance. There’s a big fridge for guest use.

The only common area doesn’t have AC and it closes after 10pm so there was nowhere to sit/work/be besides the dorm rooms of 16 people. Two showers and two bathrooms is not enough for multiple dorms that each have 16 people in them. The WiFi didn’t reach all around the property, include sometimes the dorm and common rooms. The kitchen is tiny so you always have to wait to wash your dishes and it also closes at 10pm.

Entry desk staff quite helpful with information. Cleaning staff friendly. Grounds are beautiful and being attached to hotel was a surprising feature...I chose to have hotel breakfast which was delightful.

Too expensive for what you get

Near the central station. Kitchen facilities.

The reception closes at 23 and if you want to have the key they ask you for a guarantee of 20 euros or they will keep your ID until check out. This key is not necessary as the doors to the premises will be open and people may enter through another noisy room door throughout the night. The door of the rooms is open 24 hours so anyone can enter. The number of lockers, bathrooms and showers is not enough. They don't have a safe luggage room, since you only have to leave them in a common area and pray that it is still there when you return. Since the reception is closed during the night, we have a problem with one of the guest sleeping in our room and nobody was there to help us so some of us had to take the mattress and sleep in the corridor outside the room.
