Breakfast was good. Bathroom was small with no room for belongings. Only 1 bulb was working in mirror. Staff were excellent.
Unfortunately the second day after dinner the previous event, we had to cancel our plans as I was suffering from food poisoning and vomiting. My husband was ill also. This was unfortunate as it ruined our stay overall despite the facilities being good.

The building and the grounds are stunning.
We stayed in the Lord Byron Room, which is advertised as the luxury suite, as a special treat for our son’s 8th birthday.
On arrival, we were asked if we would be staying for breakfast. We agreed and were later charged £44.84 for two adults and one child, which felt extremely expensive.
Unfortunately, the room itself was very tired and in need of refurbishment. The soft furnishings were stained, and the carpet had clearly seen better days. My son was very excited to use the freestanding bath, but the plug was not attached properly — it had a small piece of string tied to it, which snapped when we tried to drain the bath. We then had to struggle to remove it. The shower head attached to the bath had holes in the hose, causing water to spray everywhere when I tried to rinse my son’s hair.
I ended up putting him in the main shower instead, but this did not drain properly and flooded the entire bathroom floor. I had to use all of the towels to dry the floor, and they turned black, which suggests the bathroom floor had not been properly cleaned.
There was no mini fridge in the room, so we were unable to keep drinks cool. The bedding also felt worn — the pillows were lumpy and had an unpleasant smell. The room became very hot during the night, we couldn’t work out how to turn the heating off, and the window only opened slightly.
We ended up leaving early as my son felt unwell. At checkout, I politely asked if it would be possible to refund the breakfast, as we would not be staying for it due to my son’s poorly tummy. I was told no refund was possible but that the restaurant was still open if we wanted to go. I found this response quite insensitive given the circumstances.
We paid £230 for one night, which in our opinion was not value for money. The hotel itself is a beautiful building with a lot of potential, which makes it even more disappointing that the room and overall experience did not reflect the price or the “luxury suite” description.

My bed was two single beds put together and the room was quite small with a tiny bath even though I asked for a bigger bath in the email before arriving.
The beds put together and the rooms being small

Setting was lovely, breakfast was very nice. Staff were friendly
My room was dirty, bathroom especially toilet had not been cleaned, just tickled. In dire need of updating. Beds uncomfortable. No apologises. Alarm going off due to a smoke machine. Nobody came round to say this was a false alarm. Again nobody apologized for this. I would not stay again. Feel very let down as was looking forward to the stay. For the price I feel I could have had better

The size of the suite was fantastic. We stayed in the Lord Byron suite and it was wonderful and very opulent. There was plenty of parking and the grounds were lovely to have a wander around.
Unfortunately the lunch time food was disappointing. I'm not sure much of it was fresh and it wasn't well cooked or presented nicely. The burger was flaccid and the soup I suspect may have come from a tin.

Friendly efficient staff (thank you Sam😊)
Great room and facilities. Good value hotel with great history.
Please mark out the charging bays for EV's. Other parked cars in the area make parking properly a bit awkward.

Soaking wet bed, to the point of the mattress being soaked through
Receptionist barely spoke English!!
Said there were no other rooms available when there were only 3 cars in the car park!! So who’s taking all the other rooms?!

Lovely and stunning property with beautiful features and history
Maintenance on the property is lacking. A lot of jobs haven’t been completed to a very good standard and it spoils the charm of the property

The location was great, parking was easy. The bathroom was lovely and warm. Breakfast was hot.
The room was tired and cold and the bed was uncomfortable. There was no face cloth or hair conditioner. Just lacked in wow factor.

Room cold on entry as cleaner had left window open and radiator off. However was sorted out straight away

Nothing we don’t like - fab stay

The hotel itself is on a stunning piece of land and I loved the uniqueness of the hotel and its rooms, that was the main appeal to stay here.
The bed and pillows were not to my preference, they were a little hard for me, maybe some slightly softer pillows as options in the rooms. The rooms themselves are cleaned but I think because the hotel is old, it just seemed like it wasn't completely clean, I also found a few spiders in our room which weren't welcomed guests.

Food room and service excellent
Could of had a sauna and steam room to top it off but apart from that was a nice hotel

Gorgeous old hotel and very smooth check in/check out. Super comfortable bed and spacious room/bathroom. We got a last minute bargain which was perfect.

I’ve stayed here before and the food is amazing—I loved it. The location is also perfect, just around the corner from where my regular business courses are held. It is an old building, so it can be a bit difficult to keep warm at times and may feel a little chilly on occasion.
Breakfast could be served hotter—it was all a bit lukewarm.

Beautiful historical building. The restaurant is very good. The bed was comfortable. Powerful shower. The room was big.
No lift. Bathtub is very high to climb in to take a shower. Continental breakfast is quite expensive for the selection of food.

It was good but could have done with two serving rather than just the one.

Breakfast was good although coffee was served more cold than hot
Bar staff could have been trained better.
During our wedding event drinks were removed from tables by staff who thought the people had finished them

Beautiful room and large bathroom. Comfy bed and overall a lovely stay.
Staff were very friendly and efficient.
Didn’t have an evening meal here, but had some soup mid afternoon and it was delicious.
The breakfast room- laminate tables and a canteen style fold out table at breakfast which just did not fit with the beautiful style of the old building.
The bathroom was stunning (we had a luxury suite). However, again, oddly, the sink area was made from MDF and had rotted where the water has run in to it. Sad that a beautiful building has had a few cheap short cuts.

It was what we were looking for, a period property with some grounds to have a saunter in, an en-suite room and a bar for a quiet drink.
I have a bad back so I don’t expect perfection in a bed, but a mattress topper would have made it a 10.

It’s history, a real step back in time, well preserved
Only the weather 🤣

The staff were very nice. The room was comfortable.
Can be noisy could hear next door guests! Also be warned if there's a function on at the time of your stay its extremely noisy even on the 2nd floor the music was pulsating through the room but stopped around 11pm.

Interesting historic building restored by current owners in recent years from a situation of former neglect. Period architectural features have been preserved in this Grade 2 listed building, and there are many references to its ancestral home of the Byron family. Set in location near Nottingham in well maintained grounds. Rear aspect has an algae filled large pond and lake beyond, and the location offers pleasant local walks around lakes and nearby river Trent.
Breakfast not included in booking price
Light bites lunch had limited options, but the Sunday lunch was excellent with tender slow cooked beef.
We stayed in second floor spacious en-suite room with small skylight window and minimal view, possibly the servants quarters in former times.
Two weddings during our weekend stay, one inside the building, and a larger Indian wedding in a garden marquee taking up to 500 guests. Large suites on first floor used mainly for wedding party I would think.
No lift in building because of its listed status but original staircase had gentle gradient so not a problem. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
We stayed over the weekend of my milestone birthday and the picturesque location added greatly to our weekend away.

Lovely hotel in a good setting.
Parts are in need of updating, the public rooms felt a bit tired. Our room was ok, duvet was very heavy. The bathroom needs a refurb, grouting in the floor tiles poor. Needs a lift!

Loved the room it was lovely and big as was the bathroom, shower was powerful. Only thing that let the room down was the lack of view
Tiny window in the room with no view

Initial room allocation was in the very old part of the house and was very dark and no windows. As it was extremely hot this wasn't acceptable. The hotel changed the room for us, which was a better room, however, bathroom fitments were broken.

Room and bathroom were both really clean and spacious. The staff were excellent, friendly and courteous.
The location and hotel itself in the grounds were beautiful.
Nothing, all was as booked and expected. Oh, except cheap coffee in room; wish hotels would at least a nicer coffee bag rather than sachets of instant.
