The Cotswold

This hotel is old but it’s spotless. The beds are comfortable and the staff are lovely. I would recommend it if you’re looking for an affordable place to stay for a night in the city.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, close to town. Room was clean and tidy. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The only thing I would recommend are better blinds maybe black outs and a long mirror. Would definitely stay here again

Pulling up outside the Cotswold Hotel I'm thinking this hotel looks ok, it could do with a lick of paint but it looks ok. Walking down the hallway to reception I was greeted with a smile and asked to wait as receptionist was on a call. When finished she asked me my details and then told me that parking was £10 per night, nowt I could do but pay, the car is safe there unless someone parks too close (no one did). I was told my room was upstairs so I headed through the door and upstairs, looking at the carpet on the way up I'm thinking this could do with a decent clean. Found my *** walked in and put my bag on the floor and looked around. Curtains open and window wide open , window had a film over it (keep the heat in during winter? ) left it open during my time there it was warm enough (there was a fan I didn't use). In the recession there was a small tv plus large kettle (which didn't fit under the tap) plenty of t bags, coffee,sugar (no sweetners) and uht milk oh a a decent size mug. There is a huge stain on the carpet just before entering the toilet. Toilet area was narrow (a tall person could have issues hitting the sloped ceiling). Toilet, wash basin and shower were clean. No hot water oh dear ( the shower had though, so I used that for washing and shaving. No towels (hold on there were plenty on the washing line in the back garden) Hanging clothes up was limited also. Into the city centre I go to buy a towel and hand wash. The hotel doesn't serve food but there are takeaways opposite ( a chi ese, a Caribbean an Indian and an award winning fish and chip shop). Fish and chips on a Monday yeah, back to the room I go to eat. I check all over the bed, definitely no bed bugs or any bugs at all. I lay on the bed which was comfy enough, turn tv on and settle down to eat my fish and chips (there was more oil in the batter of that fish than in my car, how did that chip shop win an award!!!) Anyway I had a good night sleep and woke up around 6am everyday. The hotel is on Mansfield road which had countless buses running all day to the city so if you miss one it won't be too long before the next arrives. Across the road as well as the takeaways there is a co-op, lidl, a micro pub called Doctors Orders ( give it a visit its brilliant and reasonably priced) ans another pub just down the road. The girls on reception were brilliant, very friendly and informative I can only apologise that I only got one of the girls 1st name on my last and she was called ***. If you're happy enough with a no frills hotel the this hotel is the one. If you want a hotel that has more then prepare to spend a lot more. Yes I'd book here again.
