The Bridge Hotel and Spa

The hotel is very coveniently located for me to break my journey from Surrey to Edinburgh. The room was comfortable and, although I am not a tea or coffee drinker, there seemed to be a good selection available. I did eat the shortbread! The room was very clean and comfortable and the bathroom was clean too.

I am a blue badge holder and have two replacement knees and recovering from a broken ankle and use a mobility scooter. I realise that the hotel is old, but the corridor doors are very heavy and extremely difficult to open and hold to get my scooter and my dogs and me through the door. I have been using the hotel for many years staying on my journey up to Scotland to visit family and the doors have been like this for a very long time. Just because it is an old hotel, it does not excuse not having proper accessibility facilities. This includes the bedroom; I was in Room 6 and yes this had a shower, but I would not describe the step up into the shower as a walk-in shower. Even with the handles, I found very difficult to step up as it was a very deep step. I managed with toilet but true accessible rooms have a toilet height that is 480-500mm from the floor, and should have handles on both sides of the toilet.

Location and ambience is good. The wedding we attended was very well organised. Excellent breakfast. The reception staff were superb.

Our room was very small and right next to a function room where a disco played very late into the night keeping us awake. The bed was short and my feet hung out of the end and I am only 5ft 8ins tall. Poor design of the shower which has nowhere to place soap or gels. Very expensive for what we got!
