Splendid ‘old world’ feel about the building. Lovely helpful staff. Warm, comfortable room. There is a large, bright dining room and a wonderful continental breakfast spread. Hotel is centrally located within a short walk to the centre and sea front.
I was glad my luggage wasn’t too heavy as I had to lug it down from the distant car park up several flights of stairs to the 2nd floor. I didn’t see a lift but maybe I just didn’t notice it. But it’s good exercise.Maybe not for aging guests with bad backs.

Well placed to walk into Swanage and beaches. It was lovely and warm. Beds comfortable. Nice view from the room and rooms had everything you need.
Sadly the decor and building are very tired but still offer good value for money as we knew what we were getting.

The staff were fantastic. The room was cold even when I put the heater on but a blanket was supplied and I needed that. It's a shame that the upkeep has been neglected as a broken tile being replaced and window wood varnished would make a difference. The breakfast room is soulless and bright cloths would make all the difference. I would stay here again because the staff were so good and the location and carpark were wonderful. Handyman please tweak it 🙏 Amazing value for money however.
The faded splendour needs tweaking as it let's down the wonderful history.

the continental breakfast was very nice. The room was spacious and the view was tremendous. The location was central and only a few minutes walk from the Black Swan Pub where we had our evening meal.
Would have been nice if there had been a restaurant

Fantastic location just up from the main town centre. We were lucky enough to have a room with a view out the front across to the sea and hills.

The continental breakfast was ok, the location is good and our room had an excellent view over Swanage and the bay.
The centre heating had not been switched on even an hour after the 3pm check in time and room was very cold. Electric Heaters were supplied and central heating came on when issue was raised with staff. Room took a couple of hours to warm up enough. Shame, as room was nice at top of building, though several flights of stairs, no lift.

The hotel is set in lovely grounds and only a 5 minute walk to the town and beach. The room was clean and had a lovely view of the gardens. There is also free parking. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I didn't have breakfast but they were serving a continental one if required. My room was extremely quiet and as a solo traveller, I felt safe.
The hotel is a little old fashioned in design but I quite liked that. The beds were lovely but I found mine a little too firm...which is a me problem!

I loved having a bath in the en-suite and the place was beautifully furnished and authentic feeling.
The night manager was very informative. The morning receptionist very pleasant at check out. My adult kids loved it.
The room was a little cobwebbed in parts (so is my house - easily missed and the only reason I mention it.

Lovely historical building with loads of character
Limited breakfast options. Small tv in room. No charger for electric car

A hotel that was built in the 19th Century and retains a lot of its old charm without looking run down. Room was comfortable and parking on site. Staff friendly. Close to Swanage seafront and town centre.
Window in room rattled in the wind, other than that, no particular issues. Contintental breakfast was available for extra but no cooked breakfast available. Hotel did provide list of local establishments that did provide cooked breakfast.

This is the first time we have stayed inPurbeck House Hotel .So decided the location was easier for us .We only booked the room not breakfast .We loved the history of the place & the decor & staff very attentive friendly
Nothing we found to dislike .We knew that maybe the interior would be a bit tired looking in places because of the age .

The single room was spacious, comfortable, very warm and with the promised sea view. Breakfast was available but I don't eat in the mornings. There was no shortage of hot water and no draughts - which you might expect in such a large, old hotel. The house was magnificent with high ceilings, stained glass windows and mosaic tiled floors. There were sitting rooms and other tucked away places to sit and read when the weather was wet. The staff were so helpful and friendly and parking was secure and with ample spaces. The hotel is in the centre of the town so just a few minutes walk to the shops, the beach and the beautiful pier. The locals were very friendly! The independent shops were interesting to browse. I went in November but we had a Spring-like weather so I visited local beauty spots like Kimmeridge Bay and Corfe Castle. Highly recommend you visit Swanage and stay at the Purbeck House Hotel
There was no lift but staff were happy to help me up the stairs with my luggage. The person that helped me also gave me a brief history of the buidling and his long-standing connection with it. Fascinating!

The hotel has lots of atmosphere and character. It was warm and clean.
The hotel is badly in need of redecoration and modernisation(in character.) The bathroom suite was very old, the shower tray slippery (no non-slip mat provided) and the shower pump took a whole minute to engage and provide hot water - we thought it was broken. Breakfast was advertised on Booking.com at an extra £9 per person but if you wanted a cooked breakfast it was £15 per person. At breakfast there was a hair in my scrambled egg and a spider crawled out from under the table clothh and scuttled under a plate. My breakfast was replaced and an extra slice of bacon added. Not good value for the money.

The age and the look of the property and the outstanding views
It was perfect for what we needed . A one night stay.
Night porter needs to scrub on his customer service - we got back late- midnight - I think we disturbed his film !
