Mercure Monte Igueldo

I liked the comfortable bed and bathtub. There are also a kettle and a mini fridge. The hilltop location gave me a 300-degree ocean view in the common area, although my room didn'thave a view.

From the nearest city bus stop, it's a mild uphill, plus walking through the amusement park with other people was a quiet workout with my luggage upon checking in. Then the roller coaster noises are nonstop in my room while the amusement park is open. And yet, no one informed me that the amusement park path closes at night. Additionally, having stains on the room chairs and hand smudges on the closet doors is unacceptable for a 4-star hotel. I also expected more items at room service since the location is outside the city center.

The view

The pool was closed. I didn’t see that when I booked

Fabulous view and beautiful lobby and outside area.

Breakfast was poor value for money; make your own tea and coffee with an endless wait in the queue for the machine, and no facilities to keep the hot food such as eggs warm! Not what you expect from a hotel of this standard.

The location and views are absolutely spectacular, easily 10/10. There is plenty of parking close to the hotel, and the normal €3 entrance fee to the parking area is waived for hotel guests. Our room had all the amenities we needed, and both the air-conditioning and mini fridge worked very well.

The hotel doesn’t live up to its spectacular location. Our room was functional but rather sparse and lacked warmth or character, and the soundproofing was very poor. Service was slow and inefficient, and we didn’t find the staff particularly friendly. Breakfast was particularly disappointing. The selection was small and virtually identical every day, the coffee wasn’t good, the scrambled eggs were very runny, and the cooked eggs had turned green. On our second morning they had run out of yogurt more than an hour before breakfast ended. We actually brought our own cheese and pepperoni to breakfast. Overall, the hotel feels like it needs some TLC. With this location and these views, it could be an exceptional hotel, but the experience currently falls well short of its potential.
