It’s was quiet and secured

Great value for money, clean, cosy rooms in a historically interesting building and area. Well worth a stay. Very convenient in terms of public transport too, with the DLR and Elizabeth lines linking the area easily to central London and Heathrow.

First the good things about this place. 1. The location: it's close to everything. Two train stations, the market, the river, restaurants, street entertainment, buses galore, Supermarkets. You name it it's in Woolwich. 2. Spacious rooms: the two rooms we had were of a good size, and clean. They were a family room and a double room. 3. Friendly, responsive staff: Whenever we requested something, they responded almost immediately. And they were always kind and pleasant. This goes a long way when it comes to reviewing our experience at the London City Hotel. Considering the fact that the host of our original high-end luxury riverfront apartment canceled our reservation less than 48 hours before we were to arrive in London, I believe being considerate, kind, reliable, and friendly hosts to be very valuable. And the host at this hotel were very responsive and enhanced the experience of staying in a not great

Now to the reasons why London city Hotel earns low ratings. And it could've been even lower if not for the good efforts of the staff. 1. First Impressions: The reception area stinks. Not sure where the smell came from, but it never went away throughout the four days we were there. It smelt like wet towels or blocked sinks, or old garbage. You would never like any of your friends or family to visit you in the location like this, because of the smell. I truly dreaded returning to the hotel after a day on the town. However, once you get past the reception that smell goes away. 2. Shared bathrooms: What can I say? The idea of shared bathrooms in a hotel is just substandard. Thankfully, I had rubber slippers so did not have to stand on the soaking wet bath mat. (We were in a tight spot where we needed to choose alternate accommodation within 24 hours, otherwise I would never stay in a place with shared bathrooms.) If however, you are used to the hostel life, it may not be such a big issue with you. For me, however, it was very distressing. 3. No paper towels to dry your hands in the shared toilet room. 4. No bathroom on the top floor. We had to go down a flight of stairs to go to our bathroom, and since there was no shampoo or shower gel, or towels in the bathroom, you had to go back upstairs, half naked to get these essentials if you did not remember to bring them with you. 5. In the summer of 2026, the rooms were extremely hot, the bedsheets were never changed, and the fan was inadequate, which means we sweated All over our beds, all night, without relief. It was extremely uncomfortable. While I personally would not stay there again, I can see it being a suitable place for those who are less concerned with higher end niceties
