About this cabin rental

Please take note: the FIRST 2 NIGHTS of any 2 to 4 night rental between Sunday and Thursday are $250. a night. (VRBO no longer allows for such finessing in the cookie cutter rate boxes.)

Pets must be cleared in advance. There is a $35. pet surcharge per pet. Pets must have had a flea/tick treatment at least three days but not more than thirty days prior to their arrival at the house. NO cats are allowed. Pets are not to be left in the house alone unless they are crated. Of course, pets are not allowed on any
of the furniture or beds and I would not want them going into ponds and streams and then coming in the house without drying off first. Rentees will be charged for time and cleaning (or replacement) of soiled or ruined bedding or furniture. If your pet gets skunked under no circumstances is the pet allowed back in the house.
If you bring a pet without my clearance in advance you lose your security deposit.

Fantastic views from my peaceful property, front deck, & couch. A calm comfortable mountain retreat to recharge & reconnect. Cathedral ceiling, balcony, wood stove, dsl, wifi, Ultra HD Blu-ray player, 4K HD flat-screen, dvd/vhs player, surround sound, 2nd dvd/vhs with tv "monitor" in upstairs bedroom. Trails run through my properties past organic plantings of fruit & nut trees and hundreds of plantings that support the abundant wildlife (from bluebirds to eagles), 2 streams, adjoins thousands of acres of the 20 mile long reservoir, on which I have a registered rowboat available to you for fishing, & which is open for kayaking, canoeing, & removable keel sailboats. You will find swimming, hiking, golf, antiquing, restaurants, live music and theater nearby, in winter cross-country & downhill skiing as well as winter hiking.

OR, just settle in home and relax. You can see for 10 miles without a building in sight. Fireflies dance under a star studded sky, or relax on the couch in front of the wood stove with a good book and beverage of choice. I have a collection of games, puzzles, & a small selections of 50 or so movies, and a collection of books.

There are 3 new hiking trails in Andes. The Shavertown Trail, a mile from my property—as the crow flies— is an easy ascent to a pond overlooking the reservoir and continues on from there to a rock ledge overlook. The put in for kayaks and canoes is a 1/4 beyond that trail head. You lookout upon the mountains of the forever wild Catskill Park with hundreds of miles of trails, yet are only 12 minutes from the delightful Village of Andes with shops, restaurants & galleries. Several lakes for swimming, kayaking, & canoeing, plus a pool in the Village. Kayaks & canoes available for rental at Al’s Sporting Goods in Downsville, they will also pick you up if you take a days paddle down the East Branch of the Delaware, which exits the reservoir at that point. The Beaverkill across the way is a world class fly fishing stream, the reservoir is noted for its brown trout. The quiet winding road that runs below my properties is a wonderful walk or run, and is a favorite for cyclists--it is 14 miles from my cabin to the end of the road in Downsville and you will only pass 7 homes along the way.

Two golf courses, theater & music events in the area, including West Kortright Center, Roxbury Arts Group, Franklin Stage, Open Eye Theatre, Foothills in Oneonta. Day trip to Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall of Fame, Farmers Museum & Fenimore Art Museum, Glimmer Glass Opera, and the Ommegang Brewery— that also has concerts, or go to White Lake for the Rock n Roll museum at the original Woodstock Festival site which also has concerts.

Buy locally grown produce, dairy, eggs, and meat at local farmers markets or directly from the farms. A number of small breweries and distilleries have opened in the region— a brewery as well as a hard cider company are opening in the Village in the near future.

5 ski resorts in the general area as well snow tubing. Bring snowshoes & crampons for winter hiking the Catskill trails. Excellent cross country skiing on the Delhi Golf Course, as well as Palmer Hill & the Rail Trail — both in Andes.

The cabin has a washer & dryer, dish washer, microwave, stove & counter top broiler, coffee grinder, blender, small food processor and all accoutrements. All linens are included. Two full bathrooms, one with a tub & shower, the other just a shower. Three bedrooms with 3 queen beds. I have an entertainment center that has a hi-def Smart TV—watch Netflix or whatever you subscribe to, but there is no TV reception, blue ray player, a surround sound system, also an old vhs format player in the upstairs bedroom plays on an old tv, I have a number of VHS movies.

There is a 2 night minimum stay: Fri. & Sat. are $300. per night, first two nights Sun.—Thurs. are $250. an night, each additional night after that is $200.

Take note: During the winter our Shaver HIll Rd. is plowed and the cabin driveway is plowed if there is more than 4" of more snow cover. I shovel the access to the porch as well as the porch, and sand the porch and access as needed before guests arrive. Once guests arrive I only shovel if there 4" or more snow—I leave a snow shovel and bucket of sand for the guests for lesser amounts. I may shovel an area for the access to the bbq grill on the deck but do not necessarily clear the deck nor its staircase or any outdoor furniture. I maintain the trails through the property during the warm months but not during the winter.

I DO NOT use poison on anything—unless ants decide to investigate the cabin. So it is possible you will visited by an insect friend. I leave a fly swatter year round hanging on a hook, or under the kitchen sink. This is a NATURE PRESERVE, not a sterile hotel.

Amazing property. Secluded yet close to downtown Margaretville and other towns. A great place for adults and kids alike. Michael was an exceptional host. So easy to work with and highly responsive to questions with detailed info about the property and restaurants, hiking areas etc. Highly recommended!

This was such a great place to ring in 2025! We really appreciated Michael's communication, starting from before booking. Before he confirmed the reservation, he let us know that the wood stove was temporarily out of service and wouldn’t be repaired until after the holidays. We’ve definitely stayed in places that accepted our booking but upon arrival, a key feature failed to be available/wasn’t working, so Michael’s openness was refreshing. We had a good feeling even from that interaction and decided to move forward with the booking. So glad we did! The house was still cozy and warm enough with baseboard heating. The immediate area surrounding the house was private and large enough for a small hike. And the view of the mountains right from the living room? Breathtaking! The town of Andes, while small, was cute. We had lunch at the diner—which was about a 12-minute drive from the cabin—and enjoyed a post-lunch walk down the rail trail. The TV setup (and superb surround sound system) was great for a slow night in after a day out. The beds were on the firmer side, but still comfortable. The water in the shower was warm, the kitchen was well-stocked, and the wi-fi was fast. We also want to give an honorable mention to the books around the cabin. I would return for a week just to devour more if I could—so grateful for all the unexpected book recs! You can really feel the love and care put into the cabin. We would definitely recommend for a quiet getaway in the mountains.

Imagine visiting your cool world-traveling uncle's mountain cabin while he's away - that's what this home is like. Warm and welcoming, cozy and comfortable, this cabin was the perfect place for a weekend in the mountains, and I wish we could have spent more time here to wander the property and flip through some of the many vintage books on the shelves here. The funky art and natural specimens gave the place very cool vibe, not to mention the impressively huge jade plant in the living room! We cooked breakfast in the full kitchen, watched some birds flit around the trees in the afternoon, and curled up on the sofa with a movie at night. We would definitely come back and stay here again!

Michael’s cabin provided the peace and quiet we were craving. Very private and lots of nearby trails for hiking with our pups. We were there in June and there were hardly any other hikers on the forest and mountain trails. Cabin is clean, well furnished, and very comfortable. Lots of sunny windows to let in clean mountain air. No AC was needed as the evenings were nice and cool. Michael is a very friendly and responsive host and we had a enjoyed a pleasant evening together. We look forward to returning soon.
