What did I like? Where do I start?! The island of Elafonisos is an absolute gem. It's reasonably easy to get to with a rental car from Kalamata (or Athens, I suppose) and a very short ferry ride. The village is clean and compact with a selection of restaurants and supermarkets/mini-marts. But the real highlight is the locals. Everyone is so friendly, welcoming, relaxed, and helpful. The beaches are spectacular! The house has direct access onto Panagia. It's located a short way down from the main car park, which seems to keep it a quiet, uncrowded stretch (at least while we were there). The sand is fine and soft, and the liquid crystal water is warm, offering good swimming and snorkeling with easy access to a very rich underwater fauna. Simos is very accessible with a short drive (worth visiting, but Panagia is so nice, that we felt little need to go anywhere else). The house is very clean with updated cabinets in the kitchen and bedrooms, two very functional bathrooms, and plenty of space for six people. The roof, first floor, and ground floor terraces are wonderful features with varying views of the garden and sea--and great for catching the sunset. The drive and steps are very nicely done, and the garden surrounding the house includes olive and fruit trees and plenty of space. There were also surprisingly few bugs like flies and mosquitoes (not sure if that's typical or just season timing). There's a real sense of peace and privacy; and the beach could hardly be more convenient. Everything was just so nice. The host was very accommodating and answered every question very quickly. He also generously included a thoughtful gift--thank you!

The location of the house is really good and on the outside, the house is beautiful. The beach is near and there is a big yard and a terrace with a table and chairs. It's really nice when you want to have dinner outside.
The rooms had a strong smell, the furniture smelled, maybe because no one had stayed there in a while, there was this smell. The bed sheets and covers also smelled, not to mention the kitchen furniture and glasses, plates etc.
When we got there, there were no batteries in the A/C remote, so clearly it had been a while since the house was inhabited. The shower upstairs was in a bad condition, the hose was almost broken.
Also, considering the high price, we found it unacceptable to not have some garbage dumpsters in the yard (the ones from the town were quite far and you had to drag it all the way there). In the upstairs bathroom, no hand soap. In the downstairs bathroom, only 2 rolls of toilet paper.
Honestly, for the conditions offered, this house doesn't deserve 350€/night, it's way too expensive. Also, being so close to the beach, you would expect to have some sunbeds there, to actually enjoy the beach. There were only 2 sunbeds in the yard (and we were 2 couples, what if we had been 3 couples?).
Next time, we will definitely choose a hotel that is a lot cheaper and offers better conditions. We expected a great house at this price and we were more than disappointed. Simos Beach (located around 7km from the house) made up for most of this disappointment, that beach was amazing.
