Cabin at the Cove--A Secluded Lakefront Log Cabin Near Virginia Tech and RU

A great place to disconnect and reconnect! We were shocked at first with no wifi...but it truly gave us the time we didnt know we needed!!

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin on Claytor Lake. It was exactly what we were looking for; a peaceful, relaxing getaway for my son and me. Beyond just unwinding, there was plenty to keep us busy, including kayaking and fishing right on the lake.Trina was an excellent host, responsive, friendly, and full of great local tips. She pointed us toward Mountain 2 Island for kayak/equipment rentals, which was fantastic since they deliver right to the dock and pick everything up afterward, no hassle at all. She also recommended some nearby hiking trails that were a great addition to the trip.One unexpected highlight was the lack of cell service and internet at the cabin; it really helped us disconnect and relax. For anyone who needs some connectivity, bringing a Starlink dish works well; just know the sky visibility from the cabin is a bit limited, so speeds top out around 36 Mbps. That's still plenty for streaming or getting a bit of work done if needed.Overall, this was the perfect spot for some much-needed rest and recharging, and we'd happily stay again. There is also a lot of wild life, especially deer that frequent the area around the cabin too!

Cabin at the Cove felt like a home away from home for making memories with my fam. Activities there and nearby included playing indoor games, fishing, kayaking (which we did carry down and up the 90 steps successfully at beginning and end of stay), rail trail adventures, bird and other wildlife sitings, reading, and more. Easy procedure for arrival and departure. House was clean and everything worked as expected. Appreciate opportunity to speak with homeowner too early on in the reservation process.

The home was beautiful and well appointed as well as clean. The only issue we had was the 87 steps down to the dock, which was difficult for my veteran husband who has replaced joints. It was also hard to swim because the ladder would not stay attached to the dock, so that you could not get out with any ease. I would absolutely recommend for a beautiful place to relax but if your expectation is to be on the water, this may not be the house for you.
