Through the butler’s pantry lined with glass-fronted cabinets is the oversized dining room, with 18-foot ceilings, a custom-built dining table of rough-hewn wood and sturdy wooden chairs with leather seats, a gas fireplace, flowing silk curtains that puddle on the floor, a wall of French doors that open to a patio and Arte de Mexico chandelier and sconces. The living room has multiple conversation areas with two sofas and lots of throw pillows, a gas fireplace and a wet bar (also open to the dining room), and overlooks the pool and backyard gardens. There are custom window treatments throughout the house, and a built-in sound system inside and out.

Dogs typically are welcome with advance approval, but no cats, please.

Rental rates include cable TV, WiFi, twice-weekly pool and trash service, weekly gardening service, water, unlimited long-distance telephone (U.S. and Canada), and baseline gas and electric.

Mission Hills Country Club is a private, members-only club with dining, world-class tennis facilities and three 18-hole golf courses. The adjacent Westin Mission Hills hotel has two public 18-hole golf courses and several restaurants.

Nearby shopping includes The River (Rancho Mirage), El Paseo (Palm Desert) and Palm Canyon Drive (Palm Springs), each with a variety of stores, boutiques, restaurants and art galleries. Children will enjoy the Living Desert and the nearby Children’s Discovery Museum, while adults will enjoy the spas at the desert’s many resorts and casinos.
