About this cabin rental

Secluded cabin located on the Llano
River, near historic Castell TX. The cabin overlooks the river and is ideal for those who enjoy river sports, abundant wildlife, star gazin, cycling and privacy. The cabin is built with a touch old world charm, feature's full kitchen with handmade bar tops, full bath with slate tile walk in shower, HVAC, TV, 32 foot covered front porch overlooking the Llano River. The river is a short walk away, where you can enjoy private river front with lots of shade. Property is very private and is surrounded by large ranches. It is located 3 miles outside of Castell Texas, " 2.5 miles upstream" justa short float down stream via kayak or canoe to Castell.

A slice of heaven on earth! Out of all the VRBOs that we book, Patrick’s place is the one we repeatedly come back to. His pride of ownership is evident with the beautifully maintained cabin & grounds, and the Llano river is sooo relaxing. We had a wonderful time as always and we can’t wait to be back again to this home away from home.

We stayed for two nights and it was perfect. We were hoping for a quiet weekend on the river to celebrate our anniversary. And it was all we had hoped for and more. The cabin setting is great with easy access to the river. We took our kayaks, and paddled and fished all we wanted and also enjoyed splashing in the water, resting on the rocks along the rapids, watching the wildlife and just enjoying the peace and quiet. At night the stars are spectacular! I will take some water noodles or a pool float to enjoy the water even more when we return and camp chairs as sitting on the bank in the shade is also nice, but with ants sitting in the grass is risky.Patrick the owner/host is great!

The cabin was a well designed and comfortable for two. The large porch was were we spent our time when we weren't relaxing or fishing in the river. You have private river access with a great entry point.

A perfect location to relax, rewind, refresh. Beautiful location, dark starry nights, and the sound of the Llano river flowing several yards below the cabin. Easy access to several towns, such as Fredricksburg. Our host, Patrick, was wonderful and informative. This was our first time there, and look forward to another in the fall!

This has been our favorite VRBO yet! This cabin is ISOLATED in the hill country right on the Llano River. You could not ask for a more beautiful and serene place to escape. It was perfect for what we were searching for, limited cell phone coverage and no WIFI made it the perfect place for our weekend getaway. Be aware, though, you are definitely in the woods...there are certain aspects of camping you have to accept, like being around animals that live in the woods. If you are an outdoorsman this is perfect. The cabin was comfortable and well stocked, and the host was amazing. He met us there and took the time to go over everything about the cabin! Thank you Patrick for a fantastic weekend!

Beautifully redone old cabin! We have been to multiple spots on the llano in this area and this was one of the best! Plenty of spots that are deep enough to swim and shallower places to hang out. This is a well kept property that was great for myself, husband and two young kids.

We feel so fortunate to have found this cabin on the river to experience the secluded outdoors for the eclipse. The cabin is nicely simple and clean. It is an escape from the city and full of wildlife. It sits on a hill above the quiet (in April) Llano river. The one thing we didn't catch from the VRBO description is that there are not kayaks there for use. I believe we could have rented some in nearby Castell. We also very much enjoyed the history that Patrick shared with us.

This is hands down one of the best places to stay! My husband and I had our kids with us this time and both are ready to go back (ages 10 and 12) We fished they swam and just had a great time! Weather was dreary but it DID NOT slow us down! It is so peaceful and Patrick is a phenomenal host! We WILL be back to his place! Thank you so much again!

What a wonderful place to go to and just relax and unwind. The place is located on a beautiful spot on the llano river and you can fish or just sit on the bank and enjoy your surroundings. Nicely located between Mason and Fredericksburg. Will be staying there again very soon!

Patrick is a great host. He met us at the property, told us the history, showed us the features of the cabin then left it to us. The quality of construction of the cabin was noticed throughout. The attention to detail is impressive in how the wood joints are perfect, pipes through walls are sealed, and door closes solid. Ceiling fans turn without noise and vibration. This place is well thought out with some neat one of a kind furnishings. We didn't cook while we were there but the kitchen has everything you'll need. We experienced some hot summer days while there but not to worry the air conditioner kept the cabin nice and comfortable. Large porch is perfect for morning coffee and bird watching. The property is well off the paved road so its very quiet, feeling of remoteness without actually being so. Excellent road coming into and out of the property. Its not often that we stay somewhere that we don't have to worry about things getting stolen or locking the door when we leave. Your Yeti ice chests are safe here. LOL. Nice crushed granite path down to Llano River. This was the first trip my wife and I went on since she finished months of Chemotherapy and radiation treatments. It was just what we needed ! We are now happy to report that her cancer is in remission!

The small town this is out of is absolutely perfect. If you are worried about being too far from Fredericksburg for shopping, let me assure you, you are not. It’s the perfect location for a romantic getaway. We celebrated Rebecca’s 44th bday on the bank of the Llano river catching catfish all weekend. Caught a Guadalupe Bass and a few black bass as well. Quiet location, very isolated and the stars were absolutely phenomenal. Words won’t do it justice. Patrick was very easy to work with and he showed us around the property. Just clean up after yourselves and pay attention to the burn bans. Also, go see the locals in Mason and Castell… absolutely incredible people… good antiques in Mason as well, definitely not paying the Fredericksburg tax 😂😂

Clean well appointed cabin. Water access is down a hill but not to bad of a walk. Water is good in the area with deeper spots close by. Fishing is good down stream of the cabin near small dam wall. Used the two kayaks that were available to use. Host was responsive and gave a quick tour of property. Take water shoes and rubber shoes that won’t carry stickers in from the grass. Good place overall

We had a wonderful stay in the very comfy cabin for our 30th wedding anniversary. We had a list of places we were going to go paddle boarding but could not bring ourselves to leave. The river was perfect for paddle boarding up stream and down stream or just sitting and relaxing. We did manage a trip into Fredericksburg and SanSaba for dinner. I can’t forget the Llano Bakery.. yum.

This property is fantastic if you are looking for a restful, peaceful time. The house was spotless and the owner very attentive and responsive. Sitting at the porch and seeing the birds and the river at the end of the property was so relaxing. But the best part was that there are no lights around at night so you get to sit outside and enjoy the amazing sky full of stars! We loved it!

The photos and description of the property are spot on! The owner is very communicative and easy to deal with. A very nice and welcoming cabin. We loved the peace and quiet. We especially loved feeding the birds and watching the other wildlife (wild rabbits and deer). Direct access to the Llano River a few steps away for swimming, fishing and kayaking. Great eating and shopping in Mason a few miles up the road. A great experience overall. AND the burger in Castell is a MUST.

Words cannot even begin to describe how amazing of an experience it was staying at The Lonesome Owl. You must see the cabin in person to truly admire all of it's craftsmanship and country charm. Patrick is without-a-doubt the best host we've ever been fortunate in meeting. From sharing fascinating history, that occur right in the front yard, to just being an truly amazing person, his presence uplifted our stay and made us feel more than welcomed. The only regret we have is that we couldn't stay longer!
