There is a two acre, private tropical garden with two teahouses, one overlooking a Koi Pond for your enjoyment. We are one mile from the Volcano National Park.

Do not bring outside guests onto property or into unit without prior permission

This was a great home base for a day at HVNP. The listing was perfectly accurate and we knew exactly what to expect. Jim was responsive to communication and considerate during our stay. I would absolutely come again.

The accommodations are fine. A small place with a comfortable large bed. Mini-kitchen was fine for simple uncooked fare. What makes this vrbo exceptional are the surrounding wonderful, beautiful garden and walking paths. Perfect for nature lovers. We also walked the adjacent paved road/streets and found endemic Hawaiian birds like the ‘Apapane and Hawaiian Hawk.Thank you to our host!ps, some nice food options nearby in Volcano, the bar/pizza place (Lanikai), small market, and excellent Thai place. (And thank you to Kīlauea for erupting - amazing!)Mahalo Hawai’i.

Perfect location for 2 people visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Staying this close made it easy to get to the park to see the latest eruption. The garden on site is beautiful. Some other reviews complained about not having hot water, the host clearly states it takes a while, so just give it time. And yes we saw a spider, took two seconds to remedy that. It's in the middle of a rainforest which is beautiful, but if you want to be in nature, you might just see nature. So don't let those reviews scare you off. We will definitely be recommending this place to friends and hope to stay again the next time we visit the park.

My bestie and I were looking for an impromptu trip to Volcanos National Park and found this hidden gem. Just minutes away from the summit caldera it was the perfect location for our excursions both day and night. The accommodations were cozy and clean, and provided all the conveniences we needed. A surprise bonus was the property itself -two beautiful acres of walking paths and flower gardens. We can't thank Jim enough for his hospitality!

What a wonderful little hideaway! Small efficiency with a king bed that’s heated!! Gets a bit cool in the evenings but there’s a space heater to keep us comfy!! Booked unit re location to Volcano National Park. Showed nice inside-pleasant surroundings. Bought groceries to enable cooking meals during stay. Disappointed to discover no stove. By definition a “kitchenette “ usually includes small cooktop Host blamed us us not doing “homework” re amenities finalizing comment “I don’t want you to stay because if you do you’ll give me a terrible review”. Wanted to leave but said no refund so stayed. Closer look at pics proved host right, only microwave, coffee pot, hot water kettle, toaster. Scant to say the least. No large bowl for salad, no soup spoons—used teaspoons. No space to eat on table. Ate meals on lap. One thin dish towel, no potholders to remove hot food from microwave. No ice trays—wouldn’t fit anyway. Freezer needed defrosting. No can opener to open can of tuna for hike next day. Sign next to shower says conserve water. Took 2 minutes to get hot water—we timed it. Moldy shower curtain. Spongy toilet seat smelly and unsanitary. Musty, moldy odor, dust in corners of room and under bed. Outlets not working to charge devices. Breaker bar next to TV reliable. Very cold. Space heater provided more dust than heat. A 2-star rating and a question: what’s with the Thai food ban??

Quiet and extremely convenient to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The room was as advertised and had everything needed—plates, bowls, utensils, cleaning supplies, paper towels, small refrigerator, toaster and coffee pot. Comfortable bed and TV. Electric heater for cool mornings. Big windows to the garden area. The town had a nice laundromat and a few convenience stores w the basics. Hilo is only 40min away for bigger grocery stores and more restaurants. .

It rained the day we were supposed to arrive, and our host gave us an hour’s notice that he was denying access for that night, so we had to quickly find a place to stay. We arrived the next day, and stayed 3 nights. Everything was damp and clammy. I don’t think the unit ever dried out. Spiders and webs everywhere, but maybe that’s typical for a rain forest. We were not happy with the unit but felt we did not have alternative options since our host said he would not refund us.

We had a wonderful stay at Jim's property. We had seen some reviews talk about the beautful gardens, but we had no idea! For plant lovers, gardeners, or simply nature lovers, this is the place for you! The property is full of old growth ohias, hapu'u ferns, and countless varieties of flowers and plants. The most special however are the numerous vireya rhododendrons! Absolutely amazing. The guest suite has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the street is quiet and secluded, but the highlight for us was definitely the beautiful walking paths throughout the gardens. Thank you for sharing such a magical place with us Jim!

The location of the town of Volcano is unique. The studio was down a beautiful one lane road surrounded by lovely plants and foliage . The studio accommodation itself was just right for 2 people. It was very comfortable and well equipped. Walking through the large garden was calming and inspirational. There are easy paths through flowers , shrubs and trees, with a koi pond and seats along the way. We were very fortunate to be able to reserve this year for my birthday. Mahalo!

Had to drive about 1km through a road surrounded by jungle. Very isolated. Jim seemed nice. Did not realise this was a home stay with a very flimsY door connecting to a house. Pics depicted a separate unit. Lots of rain on a tin roof and creaking noises of the houses led to a restless sleep. Did not feel safe in the place tbh, though could just be me not use to home stays

This was a wonderful place to stay. The grounds are absolutely incredible!!! The birds, frogs and insects provide such a soothing/calming background. Wandering the grounds, you can find a sitting area that overlooks a small koi pond. When I was there, there were so many flowers in bloom. I would highly recommend this as a location to stay!!
