About this cottage rental
PLEASE NOTE: The Barn is available for weekly (7 night minimum) rentals during July and August, and 3 night minimums in fall, winter and spring.
The Barn:
From the moment you walk in the door you will feel completely at home.
Sleeps 16 in beds/featured in MN Monthly, Midwest Home, Martha Stewart Weddings and featured on the Discovery Channel (Great Retreats).
Our home is located on over 900' of private lakeshore (18 acres) surrounded by beautiful white pine, maple and birch forest. The 3000 square foot home was built in 2003 from a 200 year old Vermont hay barn we had disassembled, transported and painstakingly reassembled into a luxury vacation home. The hand hewn beams inside are up to 20' in diameter and the walls are original barn board.
Enjoy our dock at sunset. We created the path down ourselves, and we continue to work on it. It's rugged and part of the landscape on purpose! Once you get to the lake, stand Up Paddle Boards await you... You and your family will love swimming at the shore.
A charming bonfire area made by our family sits off to the side where you can enjoy s'mores, marshmallows, and cocktails.
In the kitchen, you will find a gourmet kitchen with Viking range and all of the amenities needed to relax and or entertain in grand style.
Sit on the huge deck with family and friends to watch the sun set over the islands.
A perfect retreat for a couple, a wedding, a reunion or a larger group of friends looking to experience the peace and quiet of Madeline Island. (please reach out for details and additional information for events)
We've hosted gorgeous weddings, family retreats, reunions and honeymoons. We take extra pains to make sure your needs are met. (We are delighted to have recently partnered with the local Farmhouse Inn and Darlings Grocery!)
The Barn is truly a work of art that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
The Barn is located 7 miles from the town of LaPointe where you'll find restaurants, bars, ice cream and souvenir shopping. In LaPointe you will also find tennis courts as well as a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course. Moped, kayak and bicycle rental also available or take the ferry over to Bayfield for a day trip of shopping and dinner.

"The home was BEAUTIFUL. It was decorated lovely, with a warm and cozy feeling. It was spacious, clean, very comfortable and the view to Lake Superior breathtaking. The home had all the amenities we needed and the gourmet kitchen was fabulous. We spent a lot of time on the huge deck, which had comfortable seating for all. The dock was large and awesome where we spent a lot of time sunbathing, taking a dip in Lake Superior to cool off and trying our skills on the paddleboard. We had a lovely time and we all agreed that it was one of our best vacations. We also want to thank the owner for calling us to make sure we had everything we needed. That's customer service at it's finest. "

This is a wonderful property! Our stay was very good, not great. Postives: The owners were great in communication and the property manager was awesome. The property location is very secluded, a lot of wildlife, amazingly quiet and peaceful. Awesome!The pier is superb; wide, very well anchored, long and a great spot to sit in the mornings and evenings.Interior of the home is gorgeous. Tastefully done, well decorated from top to bottom.Livings areas are large. we did not feel crammed in at allThe pantry is great.Beds were above average with good pillowsScreened in porch is a great feature.loved the wood burning fireplace and the ambiance that creates.Opportunities:The grill did not work.Coffee maker failed us but they had a back upThere is not much of a view of the lake from the house; too wooded to see much (major bummer)Lighting over main table is weak for playing games3 paddle boards, one paddle. no life Jsfirewood was limited and wet, no fire starter. both were remedied quickly by Prop mangerTrail down to lake is steep would not be great for the elderlymain floor bedroom lighting very weakfire pit location was odd to us; a bit disjointedThe sewer system fills up and needs to be pumped frequently (I guess); our first night we were instructed to go light on our water usage until it could be pumped??At this price point expectations are high and we were a bit disappointed in some of the elements and inconveniences we experienced.

Beautiful house with all the amenities we hoped for. We went for family trip with 14 people. There are plenty of places to gather all together when cooking and playing games. As well as spaces to break away for smaller groups. The island is magical with many adventures to be found.

Beautiful house to spend a long weekend with family for a quiet and fun getaway. Bed in master was wonderful. Everything we needed for kitchen. Beautiful outdoor/porch spaces!

My family has vacationed on Madeline Island for the past 40+ years, renting vacation homes for the past ten or so. We have stayed in some very nice places, but this one is really magnificent. The home itself is beatiful. The space is warm and welcoming, and very nicely finished. The waterfront has beautiful views and the dock is nice for lounging in the sun and jumping into the lake. Great deck and screen porch. A quick bike ride to the town park (big beach, bog walk, etc.). The kids loved the trampoline. Overall just a really great property!
Worth mentioning too that the owners were very nice and easy to communicate with, and they had care takers just a phone call away should you have any questions during your stay.
