Great house in an amazing position for people watching and relaxing. The terrace gets the sun until the very end of day. Astrid our host was lovely and very helpful. Had some wonderful food in the port, lots of choice and a lovely mixed vibe. Just a sun parasol was missing. Didn’t want to leave!

The property is clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. The view over the harbour was beautiful. More than enough room for the five of us. The check in and check out was very easy.

Really lovely property in great location. Enjoyed sitting on terrace watching the boats come in and out. very close to local restaurants and shops. We got croissants from local bakery everyday for breakfast. In the evenings you can walk to harbour and watch the sunset or do some of the local walks. There is a local contact in case you have any problems. Well equipped, modern KitchenPhotos on website are a bit confusing, but there are 3 double bedrooms: 2 upstairs and one downstairs with ensuite bathroom (with flat floor shower). Plus separate WC downstairs and another bathroom upstairs. This was great for us, as one of our party has mobility issues so they could be based on one level with accessible bathroom. So great property if you are looking for disability access as we were.

This house is exactly as described. Great location for exploring DDay beaches and beyond. The house is generously supplied in the kitchen. Very modern appliances and furnishings. Astrid greets you, orients you and arrives for a fond farewell. This was the perfect place for me, my son and daughter-in-law on our visit to Normandy.

This is our second time staying here, and it was even better than the first time.
There were two fantastic firework displays in the harbour area, one at the start and one at the end of our week here.
Local restaurants all good, especially breakfasts.
I would thoroughly recommend a stay here to anyone.

View is excellent, lots of fun to watch boats travel the canal. House is very comfortable. Kitchen pots and pans should be updated but overall kitchen is well stocked . Bathrooms are spacious. It is a wonderful property, I highly recommend spending holiday there. Thank you Astrid and Jon Luc for a lovely stay and wonderful memories.

We had een fantastic holiday in Port-en-Bessin Huppain. Our hostess, Astrid, was very friendly and helpful.
The house is wonderful and the view from the terrace is magnificent. Port-en-Bessin Huppain is a lovely and lively village with nice restaurants and boutiques. The boutique of Astrid, La Compagnie Ordinaire De La Mer, is a must visit!

We spent a week here. We easily explored Omaha Beach, American cemetery, St Michel, St Malo, Honfleur, etc. It is perfect in every way. Great views of the port, you can walk right to all the restaurants, patisseries, boulangeries. The bedrooms are comfortable and having the extra 1/2 bath downstairs is a plus. The terrace is a gem. Amazing views and you can eat under the covered part even if it is cold or raining. Highly recommend. Communication was excellent.

Lovely views, conveniently placed for exploring the Normandy D day landing beaches. Near to restaurants and village shops. Local bakery is excellent just across the bridge.
The house is fully equipped, the third bedroom is very small.
We enjoyed our stay here immensely.

I was swayed by the amount of positive reviews and they were right! The terrace is larger than I expected and such a great place to spend time. The town is also prettier than I thought it would be. We hired bikes from the garage and cycled to Bayeux, visited museums, swam, walked, went to the markets in the town. Ice-creams from Le Glacier are v good.

We had a lovely week. The house is very well equipped, clean and is in a great location. It was nice being able to sit out on the terrace - the glass veranda was excellent as we were able to sit outside whatever the weather. Jean-Luc answered our emails promptly and Astrid was very helpful with local information. We will return sometime.

House has a great location to local and regional amenities. The Port is busy in the day, but everything is shut by 10.30-11, which makes a quite (sometime too quite stay). House great, the stairs are creaky but you get use to them., we found our double bed VERY firm, but the rest of the house worked really well. The local fish market is amazing a provided lots of interesting food. Getting out and about to beaches and all the locations around the area is very easy as we brought our own car. We would highly recommend this for a family holiday as our teenagers also had lots of fun.

This was our fourth stay in this superbly-placed house, and we never tire of it. How could one, in such a wonderful location? Weve stayed here on our own (my wife and I), with relatives from California, and this last time with a widowed sister-in-law with whom (and her late husband) weve travelled the length and breadth of France, and she says that le Havre Portais gave her a memorable experience. Well be back!

Sunny patio in the evening. We were there as they were preparing for “La Benediction de la Mer” - a festival that happens every 5 years. Enjoyed watching all the preparations and festitlvities.
The owner, Jean-Luc was responsive to our enquiries and we were very grateful to our local contact, Astrid, who was very helpful.

Suppose you were planning to build a house in Port en Bessin and you got to choose the location freely. You would most probably build it right where this villa sits. The views on the harbour are stunning and you are close to shops and restaurants. The house itself has a spacious terrace with ample garden furniture. Inside you find a modern living room, a well equiped kitchen, three good sized bedrooms and a comfortable bathroom.
We were most friendly welcomed by mrs Barbey, who can explain you everything about the villa and the town in perfect English.
Port en Bessin is (still) no mass tourist destination, but bustling and vibrant enough to spend a great holiday. Enjoy the many fishing boats going in and out with the tide. And don't forget to go for a walk on the hills on both sides of the town for a few stunning views.

Lovely property in a fantastic location
We stayed at October half term and were delighted by the location of the property and the views over the harbour and towards the sea. We loved watching the fishing boats going in at night. We even managed to relax on the sunloungers on the terrace one afternoon in the Autumn sunshine. The property was clean and well presented and had everything we needed for our stay. Astrid met us at our pre-arranged time and explained everything we needed to know clearly. It was our second visit to this area and we enjoyed visiting all the D day sites and museums and were moved when we visited the many cemeteries. I would certainly recommend this house to others as its location can't be bettered.

Premium holiday spot in Port en Bessin
We've come to know and love Normandy well during our 30 years of travelling in France, and this was our second stay in Port -en-Bessin. We chose this house for its superb location and were not disappointed; wonderful views from the excellent, spacious, glass-roofed balcony, looking over the fishing-harbour and out to sea. A very short walk to all the small shops, cafes and restaurants around the harbour, and easy drives to the many nearby places of historic and cultural interest. Le Havre Portais is very well-equipped and comfortable (though I don't understand the current French taste for awkward steel-framed dining chairs - they were also in the last house we rented nearby) Oh..... and those noisy, creaky stairs !! But a lovely, clean, and delightful house.
Merci à Astrid pour son accueil chaleureux à notre arrivée et pour un départ très facile. Merci aussi à Mme Viret pour son assistance en ligne. Nous espérons revenir.

A perfect holiday home
A perfect holiday home
Port-en-Bessin is a lovely place for a holiday, and this must be the best house in Port-en-Bessin.
The town itself is a busy fishing port. It's small and pretty, but not too picturesque. It's nice to wander around, with a good walk up to the top of the cliffs on each side, it's easy to shop in, and it's close to places people like to see (it's on the boundary between Gold and Omaha Beaches from D-Day, and is only 15 or 20 minutes from Bayeux, with its famous tapestry and wonderful cathedral - and there are quite a lot of things within reasonable striking distance (we went to Mont St-Michel one day, for example, and to the Suisse Normande for another)).
This house, Le Havre Portais, is just next to the harbour basin, almost directly above the lock-gates which keep the basin full when the tide is low. From its terrace you can watch all the business of the port, and you can get bread in five minutes from the excellent baker just across the water, and basic groceries from the Proxi which is just as close (they're very friendly, and sell very nice fruit and cheese, as well as a lovely cheap local - literally Portais - cider, which has a delicious sharp apply taste). There's also a fish market on the quay every day, where you can buy fish caught the day before by Port's own boats - also just five minutes away from the house.
We were very comfortable in the house itself. The terrace was the really great thing for us: we ate almost all our meals out there, watching the sun shining on the restaurants and cafes opposite at breakfast, and basking in the sun ourselves at lunch and dinner. But everything inside was excellent too. The sitting/dining/cooking area is excellent for a family: you can all be together while meals are being prepared or cleared away. Two of the bedrooms are good-sized doubles; the third is quite small, but also nice.
Astrid, who looks after the key, was very welcoming, and speaks excellent English. Really, if you want a holiday in this part of Normandy, and your party is the right size, you couldn't want better.

Nice house with a cosy view on the harbour of Port-en-Bessin. The house has plenty of place, clean and nice situated in the centre. We can recommand this property to all the people who wants to be in the centre of D-day history and shops and restaurants very nearbye.

My wife and I stayed with friends from the USA and we had a really great week in this very pleasant house. The location is perfect with views over the harbour and the port.
The house is very well equipped, everything worked and our stay was most comfortable.
We were greeted by Astrid who is very friendly and takes good care of the house. She was most helpful and a pleasure to deal with.
The town has a good selection of restaurants of mixed quality so I would advise to check recent reviews before booking. One to avoid is Le Petite Chaloupe - check on Trip Advisor !
A very nice house, well located for all the Calvados region has to offer - which is a lot.
Just 45 minutes drive from the ferry port in Caen.
Thoroughly recommended.

Excellent location and comfortable home.
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay (September 2011) at "Le Havre Portais" in Port en-Bessin. The home was very comfortable and view of the fishing port, its boats and village life is memorable for its charm and calming effects. The house is very clean and well appointed. Its location is excellent for visiting the D-Day beaches, Honfleur, and other sites such as Mt. Saint Michel. Thanks to Astrid for greeting us and for the ease of renting the home. We hope to be back in the future.
