Poggio ai Gelsi

Stunning Tuscan hillside property with views for days. Amadeo and the team couldn’t do enough for us and were so accommodating. We noticed that others seemed to stay here for 1 or 2 nights - we stayed for 9 and found it was such an amazing base to explore the region. We were in ‘Lavanda’ apartment which was massive, 2 bedrooms, a full couch in the living area and a really well-stocked kitchen. The whole place was spotless too. WiFi is excellent. Pienza is a lovely town for a late dinner too.

It’s not easy to find, I wouldn’t like to arrive at night as it’s hidden down a really long, single track dirt road but it’s totally worth the drive! The apartments, whilst beautiful, do carry noise. We could hear every sound from the neighbours upstairs. It’s one of the only places in Italy where we’ve stayed and felt like it’s possibly not the place to bring kids. We have a daughter and whilst she loved the pool and was made very welcome, we didn’t experience the place as a family spot. It’s very much a well-off younger couples or groups vibe.

Dodgy roads to get to the property.

Property was great, the AC in the villa worked very well. Kitchen was great. Host very nice and kind.

Address on booking.com does not match where you need to go. Getting there was a mess and instructions booking.com sent didn’t work. We kept trying to get in touch as we lost for hrs and didn’t get much help. No one picked up phone and when finally someone e did, they didn’t speak English. So we went through 30 mins of WhatsApp text. Turns out, don’t let address, put the name on google map and follow that. Hosts uses booking.com and none of the communication comes to them. Also laundry is not in the villa, we had to give our clothes to the Host and they do the laundry as it’s a shared laundry machine.

Pool and location and views were stunning.

Didn’t think the property was in particularly good order for the cost (compared to the 4 nights we’d had previously at the same cost).
