We only used the house to stay in during the evening. We bring our own ipad. So cant tell you anything about the entertainment set up. The ceiling fan in the tv room didn’t work. We found a small fan we could use to move air. We had high 90’s the week we were there so was very difficult to cool off for bedtime. Alot of window screens were missing or old that bugs could fly in. We had mosquitoes, flies, & bees/wasps, moths, & multiple other bugs coming inside as we tried to cool off. The master bedroom was missing the sliding door screen. We located a screen that fit but was partially broken they we pried to get it to stay that we might get a breeze. No AC is tough during the summer months. The fireplace was full of ashes, the oven was so nasty like its never been cleaned. We had mice running through the kitchen & tv area. We found a couple places behind the couch that mice were using to get in and out covered in electrical tape but they got under & came through the carpet. That area around the couch smelled like mouse urine & so we didnt use that room. We could hear them at night running around & moving stuff in the kitchen it was startling sometimes. Every morning I had to wipe things down as we found droppings in everything we had out, for example our dog’s food bowl. There is a looong trek of about 8 miles by dirt road. Didnt bother us because we have 4 wheel drive but for cars it is probably not doable. Besides that we loved the sunset & views

We enjoyed peace in a fully equipped, cozy cabin with stunning views! Plenty of animals were around, and we appreciated the absence of air traffic or road noise—just tranquility and beautiful scenery. The hosts were communicative and helpful. The dogs loved this place, too, as they had full range to the wraparound deck but were contained from wandering off too far. We would love to return if our schedules allow it again.

I prefer a minimal contact, secluded stay when renting places to stay and this was unfortunately not the case here. The homeowner visited the property at least 5 times during our 6 day stay (that we know of) to fill water, chop down trees, and landscape the property. Other notes: lots of cobwebs/spiders inside and a difficult access road to the property that requires a vehicle with adequate clearance. On a positive note, the deck was a nice place to relax and watch the hummingbirds.

Beautiful remote location where a very accommodating host shares this magnificent home with wildlife, hummingbirds, peace and quiet. We used the week elk hunting nearby with my son having his first harvest. Strongly suggest an AWD or 4x4 as last 2 miles is rough. We’ll be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Reiner's Montrose mountaintop retreat. The road is a bit of a climb, and the last two miles up are rough so come prepared with patience and a high-clearance vehicle. But once you're there -- WOW! Breathtaking views, spectacular star gazing, calm winds, cool temps and a home that meets all of your basic needs (and then some). Highly recommend if you're seeking solitude with a smidge of adventure.

We had a quiet and peaceful stay at the Waldhaus. Spacious, comfortable, and a great location. We heard bear, elk, and coyotes. We saw a mule deer momma and her two babies as well as a bunch of hummingbirds! We highly recommend this home to those who have a 4-wheel drive, higher clearance car - we did fine in our Subaru Outback. You will not regret choosing this location.

My husband and I celebrated his 50th birthday in Colorado for 7 days. We stayed at Reiner's mountain home as our hub to hike Telluride/Curecanit/Black Canyon and Ouray. We didn't realize that staying at this rental is an experience by itself. I have stayed at many many VRBO's over the years but nothing like this. This is far removed from city life. The peace and quiet on the mountain is the most perfect quiet I've ever had and was a true retreat from my 6 kids and crazy life! We had 3 days of evening rains while we were there. This made the trek up/down the mountain pretty slick in the morning even in the Jeep. We watched several YouTube videos and we got pretty good at muddin' by the end! I set my alarm every morning to never miss a sunrise and walk the road a mile up and back with coffee in hand. I'll never forget it. Others have mentioned there's no A/C. True but you don't need it. You open a few windows and you have the best A/C in the world. The living room Smart TV worked great. Kitchen is well stocked and hot showers were perfect on sore muscles. Thank you!

Loved all the space, it was very comfortable. Enjoyed sitting out on the deck watching the hummingbirds and looking at the scenery and stars. Definitely a secluded getaway. Be prepared, the last couple miles of the road in is rough and need higher clearance vehicle 4WD or AWD. Reiner made sure we had a great stay and gave us some suggestions of things to see.

The view from the house was amazing. The house was huge with plenty of room to spread out. Things to know: there is no dishwasher and the washer & dryer does not work. We did not have 4 wheel drive, but drove a SUV with high clearance. Normally this would have worked out okay even though the last 2 miles of the road is VERY rough with jagged rocks and loose gravel. When it rains… you definitely need 4 wheel drive!!! The first day there it rained and the road turned into a muddy, sticky mess. We slid sideways all the way down the hill. That night it rained again and we were afraid to leave for fear we wouldn’t be able to get back up there… one whole day wasted. After the rain stopped and the road dried it was wonderful. Not a place you would run back to pick up something you forgot, but a beautiful place high in the mountains with no neighbors.

Big space. HUGE wrap deck with great views for sunrise and sunset. The road in is rough, and FYI only one option, lots of the roads on Google are gated/private. Firepit, gas and wood, both grills, indoor wood stove, full kitchen (but bring your own sharp knives!), this place was VERY private and secluded, and gorgeous for fall color. Also seems well-appointed for hunters. We’ll come back.

We had a wonderful stay on this property. The views of the sunrise and sunset were breathtaking and seeing the stars so clearly at night was a great! We loved feeling the breeze through the windows in the day and being warmed by the fireplace at night. The house was well stocked and very clean. Reiner was extremely helpful with directions to his property and had great suggestions of things to do while visiting. We are looking forward to spending time here the next time we travel to Colorado!

We really enjoyed our stay at Reiner’s house. The view from the porch was spectacular, overlooking rolling hills and the town of Montrose. At night, the whole sky was ablaze with stars, and the sunrises and sunsets were amazing. We loved the solitude and serenity. yes 4 wheel drive or awd needed--couple of corners in the last mile are washed out pretty good. slow going for sure. but the views are absolutely beautiful. plan your excursions accordingly for the drive down and allow plenty of time. gps takes us to the house from Montrose but from the south, ridgeway it wanted to take us up the back side of the mountain, as long as you know this you will be ok. wifi was great, tv is roku or satellite. pond in view where animals frequent. watching storms roll in was the best part for me. magical.

My family and I spent 5 days at the cabin!! We loved being able to have our coffee on the deck just looking at the gorgeous views!! We really loved the hummingbird feeder and being able to see other animals that went on the property! We all did not want to leave. We will definitely be back!!

My wife and I spent a week at this high-elevation remote getaway location. We loved the expansive views during the day and the incredible night sky in the evenings! The owner was very easy to work with and made the stay enjoyable. I would keep in mind that the cabin is very remote. It takes 35-45 minutes to get into Montrose or Gunnison and at least an hour to get into Ouray. But the remoteness is worth it at night and during a hot day in Montrose. The remoteness also comes with a lack of road maintenance. If you do not own a 4-wheel drive or at least a higher clearance vehicle, you won't get to the cabin. A sedan would likely be damaged trying to reach the location. There isn't air conditioning, so be prepared to keep the windows open and hope for good breezes. Not all of the screens were in place so every window couldn't be opened to expedite the cooling off of the stuffiness. The temp in Montrose was in the high 80s or 90s but the cabin was in the upper 70s or very low 80s at the peak high. So, the opening of the windows becomes important. However, be prepared to be wrapped up by morning as the temps cool off quickly in the evening and through the night! The listing showed a washer/dryer. It was out of service but the owner was quick to provide us with cost-free laundromat services if we had needed them. This along with a few minor touch-ups would improve the listing accuracy. Overall, we had a great time and will stay there again! The view is gorgeous!

We are a family of 5 on a long road trip, our kids are 18, 15, and 13. This was our first ever vrbo, we stayed 3 nights, and really didn't want to ever leave! The house is beautiful- so comfortable and spacious, and THAT VIEW!!! The breathtaking sunsets on the deck every night was my favorite part, simply amazing! We loved watching all the wildlife- we saw a few deer, lots of funny chipmunks, huge hummingbirds, and we had so many laughs about the neighboring sheep and cows! The drive up and down was an adventure lol! We have some *really* rough gravel roads that we travel on back home, so it was something that wasn't too intimidating for us. We have an AWD Sienna, the only thing we wished we had was just one more inch of clearance. But we had fun timing each trip and we laughed the whole way lol. Again, we loved it so much that we didn't want to ever leave! It was so nice that it just felt like home right away. Highly recommend! And we can't wait to come back! Thanks Reiner!

My boyfriend and I spent the last weekend of September here. When we met the property manager at Walmart we didn't realize it was a 40 minute drive up the mountain and by the time we were half way up we realized getting down to go food shopping was going to be another 2 hours of our night. Reiner was SUPER nice and would have been accommodating towards us to turn around and go food shopping, but just want to warn all that it is 40 minutes from Walmart. Reiner had great recommendations, but failed to show us the keys to the house. Again he was a great host, but it was information overload and I think a bit of feedback here would be to have a list of important good to knows about the house so it's clear on some nuances. We also couldn't find the keys until the last day so we didn't lock the place. It would be really helpful if he handed us the keys or if there was a lock pad on the door. Location wise this was great. We got to explore Black Canyon, Telluride and Ouray. We were blown away by the beauty of southern Colorado as the aspens were changing colors. WARNING: After driving home from Telluride Google maps took us up the back way of the mountain. The road seemed promising until it wasn't... we turned around because it was muddy and steep. The road is a power line road. Just whenever you're traveling back type in the local Walmart until you're back to Montrose.
