Disappointing. Please make sure the furniture is cleaned properly and free from dog hair.

The open fire, the bed was semi comfortable, duvet was cosy.

The host didn’t communicate following our reservation. We messaged to say we were on route and should arrive around 5ish, still no reply when we arrived so we had to call the host direct to be given the code for the lock box The house was cold when we arrived, window open in the bedroom (We stayed in November). The images on the website are deceiving as the house appears to be remote, but a number of other properties are close by. The house lacks the finer details, appears to have been thrown together with lots of old, uninspiring furniture. There was also lots of dog hair and appeared that the sofa’s had not been cleaned in some time, (debris under cushions and in the corners of the sofa and chairs). The wardrobes were thick with dust on top. We liked the open fire but it would have been thoughtful of the host to have the fire burning on arrival. The kitchen is very basic, again with old random utensils. The fridge was set too high and froze our milk! We get it’s an old cottage but it shouldn’t come exclusively with so make cobwebs!

Great escape for a night or two

The outside of the property is beautiful. The scenery is incredible.

There was no basic cleaning supplies. Nothing to wipe up after cooking so could only use water and washing up liquid. No hand soap either in toilet. Also, no secure garden. Few holes in the fencing where dogs could escape into farmers field with sheep.

Great location - great weather

Superb location to lake of menteith which was the reason for our visit.

Living room could do with updating, sofas old and stained - we didn’t use this room. Outside furniture was on its last legs - we were 6 years so more outside chairs would have been beneficial.

Great location in a tranquil spot.

The location at Cardross was great for us with the dog. Easy dog walking straight out of the property. Very tranquil atmosphere and just a nice place to stop. The bedrooms were great and one evening was quite cold - but the small wood burner worked a treat. The property has a great deal to be pleased about but we were a bit disappointed by the level of cleanliness of some of the crockery in the kitchen cupboards. My wife was not happy with this and washed cups, saucers, plates etc. A nice touch from the owners was a small 'welcome basket' which even had a small bottle of good whisky! Depite our slight disappointment with the level of cleanliness mentioned above I would stay here again. The washing machine etc were a welcome bonus

Great location for relaxing stay.

Great location close to Stirling, Blair Drummond and Loch Lomond. Nearby to Loch Monteith and Nick Nairns restaurant. Farmhouse was in a lovely location in well tended grounds. Both showers and bathroom were clean and modern.

Downstairs a little bit shabby and tired. Sitting room couches were stained and scruffy.

We've paid less to stay in better

Location was good, view was lovely. Everything was clean and tidy, the property was nicely presented from the outside and was an adequate size for our needs. We couldn't find the remote for the TV, a question was sent through the app and we had it found with the owners help within an hour.

Kitchen was inadequate, not enough kitchen ware, no baking tray in the oven and no kitchen amenities. Decor was tired and worn, burns on the carpet, paint peeling in the bathroom. Furniture was cheap and well past it's best. The missing remote showed the cottage hadn't been cleaned properly

We had a great months stay at Hawthorn Cottage and would definitely return.

Loved the location and size. The cottage was very cosy, comfortable and warm. Plenty of privacy and parking room. Kitchen was a good size and was well equipped. Good size fridge freezer.

We knew the property was older when booking and it is getting a revamp soon according to owner. But things that could be improved were possibly the shower pressure, new carpets and a kitchen modernisation. Also sofas and chairs were past their best. But nothing drastic.

Tranquil, clean and peaceful.

From start to finish our stay was fantastic. I really loved the personal touches such as the welcome basket and the guestfriend app. The location was easy to find. The cottage was very clean. Beautiful location and very peaceful. The host was very easy to contact and could not be more kind and helpful. We hope to return again soon. Very impressed with the cottage.

Cosy cottage

Very cosy cottage in an idyllic location just south of Port of Menteith. We loved staying on a working farm. The animals were so characterful. There are a couple great restaurants just down the load (Nick Nairns and Karma hotel).

Beautiful surroundings. Cottage was very cosy and welcoming and well equipped. Lovely fresh cotton linen on the beds. Basket with welcome gift was lovely. Employee family in next cottage very welcoming and helpful.

Beds were OK prob for some folks but just a little too firm for me. Stairs were very steep, could have done with another metal hand grip half way up as the handrail is hard to get your hand round at that point because of the wall. Microwave hadn't been cleaned. Everything else was lovely though I'm sure that was prob just a slip up.

Quiet location and good value.

Could do with some more basic essentials in the kitchen - refuse bags, foil, cling film. We were staying for work purposes with long days and there’s no local shops to pop out and get these sort of things. We arrived with most provisions!

not much really the heater at the entrance did not appear to work but the rest of the cottage was nice and warm. a sponge and/or brush to clean dishes would have been handy to have.
