I stayed at TREASURE HUNTER At Heritage Georgetown, 104 Lebuh Cintra, from 14 to 16 August 2026 for 2 nights. Our booking was for 3 adults in a Family Room with Private Bathroom, booked and paid through Agoda. To be fair, the room and bathroom were clean, and the facilities provided were satisfactory. The location is also excellent, in the heart of historic George Town, very close to Kimberley Street, which is well known for its evening hawker stalls and traditional Penang street food. Many restaurants, heritage streets and attractions are within easy walking distance. However, despite these positives, I selected “Not Recommended” because our overall experience was very disappointing, mainly due to the parking situation and poor check-in arrangements. The property listing stated that parking was available on site. In reality, there was no dedicated or reserved on-site parking for guests. The spaces in front of the property were simply public roadside parking and were not reserved or controlled by the property. They were constantly occupied, including late in the evening and early in the morning. I personally spent almost 30 minutes looking for parking, making around five circles through Lebuh Cintra, Lebuh Kimberley, Lebuh Campbell and Jalan Pintal Tali before eventually having to park in a nearby residential area. Every time you leave the property by car and return, you face exactly the same problem again. I have lived in Malaysia for 16 years and visit Penang and George Town frequently, so I am very familiar with the parking situation in the heritage area. I fully understand that parking can be difficult. However, that is precisely why the property description should be accurate. If there is no dedicated on-site parking, the listing should clearly state “public roadside parking only, subject to availability.” Guests travelling by car should be allowed to make an informed decision before booking. The check-in experience was equally frustrating. When we arrived, the entrance was locked and there was no staff member available. I spent around 30 minutes searching online for a contact phone number, as Agoda had not provided one, and trying to reach someone at the property. The Agoda confirmation included an email address for the property, but no telephone contact. When I finally managed to reach someone, I was told that the problem was because I had not provided my mobile number. I do not consider this an acceptable explanation. For a property operating with self-check-in or without staff continuously present, it is the responsibility of the property to make sure that clear check-in instructions, access information and a reliable contact method are provided before the guest arrives. Agoda also needs to take more responsibility for the quality of information shown on its platform. The booking confirmation states that Agoda notified the property about our upcoming stay. If a property has no reception or requires self-check-in, Agoda should ensure that the necessary access information is actually available to the guest. Overall, the room was clean and the location was very good, but this was overshadowed by parking issues and an unacceptable check-in experience. These are not minor inconveniences.
