    We arrived by public boat from the airport and I arranged a porter in advance by calling the hotel, which was a smart move. The walk from the pier turned out longer than expected—especially across sandy ground in the heat—so for anyone else I’d recommend a private transfer (typically 2,500–4,000 PHP) which boat stops right in front of the hotel. I tipped the porter 500 PHP because it was a distance from pier. Pls tip all hard working people there!! Ocean Vida is not a polished urban hotel, but it’s one of the better options you’ll find on the island. We stayed seven nights in ***. The room itself is straightforward and nothing fancy, though the garden-view rooms also looked perfectly fine. What matters more is the location and atmosphere. The beachfront sofa areas are wonderfully chilled, and the place has a genuine international vibe. I got chatting with quite a few fellow guests during our stay and found it easy to settle in. Sometimes we dived together with smiles. The real highlight for us was the diving. My teenage daughter did her one-on-one Open Water + Advanced course with instructors from Sea Explorers Dive Center, which is right next door. Noveaime, Kim, and Lydio were all kind, professional, and the classic “dive with a smile” type. Early starts (we were sailing at 4:45 am most mornings) were easy from the hotel, and the convenience of being so close to the dive centre made the whole week run smoothly. Staff throughout the property were friendly. The ladies at the bar and restaurant were especially warm and helpful. The gents tended to be quieter and cooler at first, but I got on well with them after a few days. Special thanks to Rham, who was particularly helpful and even rented me his motorcycle. A few practical notes for anyone considering a stay: this is Malapascua, not a big-city resort. You may notice slightly salty water, the occasional light bulb out, or brief power cuts and safety box issue. Don’t sweat the small stuff—expect things to be a little imperfect and you’ll be fine. Wi-Fi was patchy, though the dive centre let me use theirs from time to time. Overall we had a really enjoyable week. The people were lovely, the island is beautiful, and Ocean Vida served as a convenient, relaxed base right on the beach. If you’re coming for diving (or just to enjoy the island vibe), it’s a good choice—just arrive with realistic expectations and you’ll leave happy. Stay here if you want to see Thresher Sharks !

    The staff were really welcoming and helpful all the time. The place to stay was nice and clean with good lighting. I’ll stay here again when back in Malapascua.

    Although the staff is very pleasant, I would not recommend this location for this price point. The food is pricey, the rooms are outdated, no amenity kits or dental kits, there is no wifi access in the rooms, and the breakfast was rather lackluster—they ran out of food every time, which is unacceptable for the price i paid.
