    Hotel has a nice location right on the river with a pool to see the elephants in the river from the hotel. All staff are friendly. If you arrive before the 4pm check-in time you may need to buy a half day ticket to enter the area where the elephants and hotel are, otherwise you need to wait on the main road until 4pm. This has nothing to do with the hotel but we saw hooks on poles being used on the elephants body by the handlers to control a few elephant in the river which was not pleasant viewing, so please consider if visiting Pinnawala is what you want to do.

    If you are going to Pinnawala for the elephants, this hotel is recommended for one night stay (only) mainly because there are not many options in the area. The bathroom is wet (Asian style) which is not much of an issue except for the toilet which does what I can only call as "backwash". No matter how many times you flush, the next time you use it, you will see strong brownish yellow water at the bottom. There were many flying biting insects and at least one lizard inside the room. There are no lifts (elevators) and our room was on the top floor (I'm in my early 40s--it was not fun). The staff was friendly and accommodating but not entirely honest about whether their breakfast was halal or not (they cook pork in their kitchen). Read the hotel policies before booking to avoid any confusion about check-in and when you can see the elephants without additional fees.
