Hotel Carlota

Great central location for our needs, staff always helpful and friendly. Room clean, modern & cosy. Cafe/restaurant was great too. Would love to go back to Mexico City again!

I initially choose this hotel because of the amenities and location. Those were fine, and the hotel was super cute, but I didn't anticipate that I would hear EVERYTHING while in my room. I could hear someone walking around the room above me, I could hear everything in the room next door, I could hear the kitchen and staff setting up the tables for breakfast at 7 am, and since this hotel allows non-hotel guests "day passes" it seems like the have a nightly bar vibe where they play music for entertainment which I could hear in my room until about 9:30 pm. It is a small property so everything seems to be close together. I booked this hotel for a work trip, so I only stayed 2 nights but I didn't anticipate all the noise that I could hear from my room. They did provide ear plugs, but I think that all the noise is important to consider when looking at options in this area because in past reviews, I didn't see anything like this mentioned. Regarding the rest of my stay - room was fine, I liked the access to the attached cafe, I appreciated the location.

I have stayed at this hotel several times in the past...most recently about four years ago (immediately pre COVID). These last four years have not been very kind to this hotel. The most inconvenient things were the wonky electrical problems linked to the key card holder near the door. It took a lot of fiddling to get the electricity in the room to go on and stay on. Also, the door key itself often had to be reset / demagnetized so much so that I started asking the front door staff to remagnitize it every time I entered the hotel (to avoid risking going to the third floor room only to find out the key didn't work AGAIN). This used to be a very fun, happening, and stylish hotel, but it isn't so much that anymore. It's unlikely I will stay here on my next visit to CDMX.

I have been a loyal guest at Hotel Carlota since its opening in 2015. Over the years, I’ve appreciated its unique design and central location in Mexico City. However, during my most recent stay, I observed a noticeable decline in the hotel’s standards. The electricity in our room was unstable, leading to frequent disruptions that affected our comfort. Additionally, accessing our room became a challenge due to malfunctioning electronic key cards, requiring multiple trips to the front desk for resolution. Cleanliness, which was once a hallmark of the hotel, now appears to be lacking. Our room did not meet the expected standards of hygiene, with noticeable dust and unkempt facilities. Given these issues, I regret to say that I will not be returning to Hotel Carlota in the future. It’s disappointing to witness such a decline in a place that once offered a memorable stay.
