I had a wonderful stay at Bayview Beach Resort. The room was beautiful and clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. I enjoyed my stay and would definitely consider coming back again in the future. Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday!

I would not highly recommend this resort for travellers planning a holiday near Batu Ferringhi Beach, Penang. Let me start with its positives. It has a bay-view location. From the window, you can see the hills of Penang National Park to the west and the sea to the north — a framed combination of both sea and mountain scenery, which I found quite nice. During my stay, I got to enjoy this view on both sunny days and during heavy rain, giving me a unique experience of the changing outlook. The outdoor facilities are also fairly extensive. There is a large pool complex with multiple pools: a children’s pool ranging from 0.4m to 1.2m deep, an adult pool at 1.5m, and a deep 4m pool suitable for diving. There is a dedicated kids’ pool as well as a big central pool. A pool bar is located within the pool complex, though it was closed during my stay so I could not use it. The resort also has a small water park and other non-water playground facilities, which suits families with children who enjoy outdoor resort amenities rather than staying in the room. Compared with newer nearby resorts such as Hard Rock, Lone Pine and the Shangri-La family and couple resorts, this hotel offers better value. The rate is relatively affordable; I paid only around 300+ RMB for the night. These are all the good points I experienced. Now for the downsides. First, the whole resort is very old. The décor appears to date back to the 1990s or 2000s, over 20 years ago. The design style, fittings and colour palette look outdated. The wooden furniture, bed and other in-room fixtures seem worn and in need of maintenance, and there is an old, musty smell in the room. It does not deliver a stylish, relaxing holiday feel; instead, it feels aged. Second, the service felt careless and even somewhat indifferent. I am not sure whether this is because the room rate is low, but responses to guest requests and enquiries were not very pleasant. Third, on the second day of my stay it rained heavily, and all outdoor facilities were marked as closed. Given the tropical climate in Penang, I am not certain whether closing the pool when it rains is a formal policy, as swimming in the rain would normally be fine. Although the outdoor facilities are plentiful, the overall atmosphere was not lively. Whether because of the rain or otherwise, I did not see many guests using them. The whole resort feels outdated, quiet and a little lifeless. One more important point: the duvet was sandwiched between two separate bed sheets instead of being inside a proper duvet cover. This made me feel it was not clean and raised hygiene concerns. Overall, I do not recommend this property.
