    I booked two rooms at Citadines Prai Penang as my family was travelling together.. my mother and I in one room, while my younger sibling, his wife and their three young children stayed in the other. From the moment we arrived, the service was disappointing. The Indian lady at the front desk was not friendly or welcoming at all. Worse, despite booking two rooms together, we were assigned rooms on completely different floors, far apart from each other. The biggest issue came when we finally reached our room and discovered that the key cards were not activated. We had to wait for security to come and issue new cards. We had already travelled all the way from Johor to Penang and arrived late, so everyone was exhausted. After such a long journey, being given rooms at opposite ends of the hotel and then having to deal with inactive key cards was simply unacceptable. As someone who works in Front Office myself, I understand that problems can happen. What matters is how the hotel handles them. At the very least, the staff should have shown some courtesy, acknowledged the inconvenience and offered an appropriate solution. Unfortunately, there was none of that. The service felt poorly trained and completely lacking in guest care. Check-out was no better.. no smile, no greeting, no sense of appreciation for the guest. If you are unhappy with your management or unhappy working there, that is not the guest’s problem. Guests should never be treated as though they are an inconvenience. We specifically chose this hotel because it was close to my sibling’s programme the following day. We travelled a long way from Johor and expected at least basic hospitality and professionalism. A big hotel does not automatically mean good service. This experience was a clear reminder of that. Unfortunately, this will be our first and last stay here. I would not recommend this hotel based on the service we experienced.
