We had a wonderful stay! The room was spotless and very clean, making us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. The staff were incredibly friendly, polite, and helpful. They even went the extra mile by helping us bring our scooter down the steep road, which we truly appreciated. The swimming pool was beautiful and well-maintained, and the breakfast was delicious with a great selection of food. The hotel offers a quiet and private atmosphere, perfect for relaxing and enjoying a peaceful getaway. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a comfortable, peaceful stay with excellent service. We would definitely come back again!

★★★☆☆ 3/5 I’m writing this review while I’m still staying here, so this is very much a first-hand account of the guest experience rather than a review written after the fact. Arrival & Check-In If you arrive by Grab from the airport, be prepared for a somewhat confusing entrance. You’ll be dropped off in what essentially looks like a parking lot with a security gate. There is no obvious sign saying “Coral Reef Hotel Check-In” or indicating exactly where arriving guests should go. I approached security because I assumed they were the people I needed to speak with. When I told them I was checking in, they didn’t really explain anything to me. The security guard made a phone call in a language I don’t speak, and shortly afterward a car pulled up from the other side of the gate. No one actually explained that the car was for me or that I was being transported up to the resort. I just went with it—and fortunately, I was in the right place. The property is essentially up a fairly steep hill, so the car takes you from the security entrance up to the actual resort. Once I reached the front desk, I immediately encountered two additional charges: a refundable deposit and taxes. Neither came as a surprise exactly once they explained them, but I had not been aware of them beforehand. This is particularly important if you are arriving without Malaysian ringgit. I’m doing more of a workcation here. I came primarily to relax, work on creative projects, do some art, and study Thai. I wasn’t planning on leaving the property much, so I didn’t bring much cash. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that most things at the resort are cash-only. Rules, Policies & Finding the Room Check-in also involves signing a fairly extensive list of terms and conditions. You’re informed about charges for damaged items, which towels can be used in which areas, restrictions on having guests after midnight, certain fruits that cannot be brought into rooms, not leaving shoes outside because they can attract monkeys, housekeeping procedures, and other property-specific rules. I actually appreciate knowing the rules. My issue is that there is a lot of information about what you can be charged for, while comparatively little information about what you can actually purchase or how to enjoy the property. After receiving my key, I was given very basic verbal directions to my room. Since I had never been on the property before, I expected someone might point me toward the room, but I was essentially left to find it myself. There was also some confusion because the room number I was verbally given did not match the room number on my key. I initially went to the verbally stated room and confused another guest who was actually staying there. I eventually checked my key and found the correct room. Not a major issue, but definitely an unnecessary bit of confusion at check-in. The Atmosphere & Children One of the first things I noticed walking toward my room was that there were several children on the property—I’d estimate three or four, ranging from infant/toddler age through preteen. This surprised me because based on the advertising and photographs, I had interpreted the property as being primarily adults-only or at least strongly adult-oriented. That was ultimately my mistake for not doing more research beforehand, but it does affect the experience I was expecting. For example, I brought a couple of bikinis that I would have been perfectly comfortable wearing around what I thought would be an adult-oriented pool environment. With children around, I personally feel more inclined to dress conservatively and keep things family-friendly. There is no rule saying I have to do that. It’s simply something I’m choosing to do because I’m a guest in another country and don’t want to be the person creating an uncomfortable environment for families. It also changes how I can use the pool. As an adult traveling alone, I would ideally like to have a drink by the pool,
