Nestos, Meer und Berge - Griechenland mal anders

This place happened to be our little Paradise! The house is beautiful, stylish, every detail is touched with taste and care. The room is just perfect for a couple – very clean, comfortable, with new bathroom, French windows and a perfect mosquito net. The terrace… ah, the terrace – once you get there, you forget about the sea and the beaches. It is huge, with gorgeous views to the mountain and to the sea, and you can even clearly see Thasos from there! The air is fresh and cool in the mornings and in the evenings because of the Southern Rhodopes (the village of Zarkadia is nestled in their foot – Kesteni mountain). The terrace, though, is cool all day long because of the clever architecture of the house. The village is very calm and quiet. There is a quite well provided shop, a pharmacy and a café in it. There are plenty of destinations for all sorts of walks and tourism, the meanders of the Nestos river included. We saw the two churches and the amphitheater and had a few walks in the mountain. There are also beautiful beaches around. We chose Keramoti – about 20 km away (15 minutes by car). The beach is really huge, with fine yellow sand, bars and restaurants, and an endless free area to the East – for people who prefer to relax in peace and quiet, like us. On the way back, we used to buy fresh fish from a fish store in Chrysoupoli (Ιχθυοπωλείο Ψητοπωλείο Λιτσος), they cook it for you, if you want. And the landlady – Artemis – she is the real treasure of the place! An exceptional woman, discretely friendly, hospitable and caring in the beginning – at the end of the stay we felt like friends! A really nice person and companion, she speaks both German and English. This was our most idyllic holiday ever (and we’ve travelled a lot)! Also, as we usually combine holidays with work, it’s worth mentioning and underlining – the Internet in the house was perfect, which is unusual for Greece.

We were warmly welcomed by Stefan and Artemis. There was a good hearty breakfast with as much coffee as we wanted. We particularly liked the Greek speciality that we had the second day. Stefan was very informative, lending us books about the area, answering our questions. He is extremely knowledgeable about nature, which we appreciated very much.

It would have been nice to have a small fridge in the room.
