City Hostel Shymkent

「女性4人部屋」と案内された上で、ドミトリーにチェックインしました。 夜に部屋に戻ったところ、知らない男が私のベッドで寝ていました。 すぐにフロントに行き、おかしいと伝えたところ、たいして悪びれる様子もなく、別の部屋の鍵を渡されただけでした。 立地は良く、綺麗だっただけにとても残念でした。

Close to bus stops right in the city center. Huge hostel. Free coffee and water. Nice colorful rooms. Great shower. Very helpful and friendly staff.

The place is very nice. Big, clean and tidy. Comfortable beds. Albeit a little quiet right now. Mainly I want to say how fantastic Assya (receptionist) is. I had some trouble renting a vehicle (long story), and the company were very difficult in refunding the money. Assya took it upon herself to be my translator and advocate. She even came with me to the police station, helped me with the paperwork, and helped retrieve the money. And that was outside of work hours, for over four hours sorting it out, and is even continuing to solve the issues for the next few days. Further, when it appeared I would miss my train to Almaty, she very kindly offered me a free stay in the hostel for the extra night while I replanned my trip, and helped me recoup the money from the rental company. A truly wonderful person, and I will be forever grateful. Thank you so much

The rooms were kept very clean. The problem was that the eating area and kitchen were filthy and ignored on purpose. Plates of half eaten food were left for days out on the common dining tables. The kitchen was full of leftover plates of food and food trash that nobody came to clear for up to 3 days at a time. The microwave was so dirty it was stuck shut. Bringing this to the attention of the staff brought nothing but blank and indifferent stares. My food was stolen twice, because this is a hostel for anti-social international and regional guests. The hostel was almost empty during my entire stay, yet when guests arrived at 2:00am, they were shoved into rooms with sleeping guests, and as a consequence, everyone was woken up and the restful night was absolutely ruined. The hostel could have put them in the plethora of empty rooms available, but they did not. I was woken up two times by guests entering very late, who then proceeded to treat their check-in as if it was mid-day. At that price, you are getting a hostel fool of unshowered and poor mannered guests who insist on playing their phones on loud speakerphone, regardless of the hour and fact that others around them are trying to do work. The location is central, that is the plus side.
